Thrift Share Monday.

This week I am a little late for the party, but better late then never. One good thing about being this late for the party - the food is always gone. Don't need anymore empty calories!

A variety of items this week. Check them out in a whole...

Last week I saw some Paula Abdul pins up at Funky Junky in Kensignton Market, but passed them by since I didn't have enough change in my pocket. I've been a Paula fan ever since my sister started rocking her in the late '80s - I really didn't have a mind of my own. Really. She used to ask for my food for me. Everything. It was nice not having to talk. Anyways, still into the '80s. My point is, I can't stop singing "Straight Up" after watching Raja & Carmen lip sync for their life on Rupaul's Drag Race season 3. The best moment of the season. Check it out RIGHT HERE if you want. Anyways, 3/$5 at Funky Junky. 2 Paula & 1 Janet Jackson.

Another example of how I get to excited in thrifts. I looking through the pins for almost 5 mins, was expecting to find it right away. It's a huge basket. I was about to give up & ended up coming across 3 pins. 2 were identical.. I looked them over & handed them to the wife & said, "take a look at them, tell me which ones in better condition. I can't tell." He looks at me in disbelief, "really? you can't tell?" He turns them over, one is missing the pin part & has turned green from some water damage. Jeez!

This is one of those hard to photograph items, vintage candy jar for $1.99 (i think). I have a similar in style one, which is pictured on the left, which makes the new one on the right.

A Federal bowl bought from Goodwill, $1.51. It had a chip. I knew it when I bought it. I'm not sure my stance on chip in my collection, especially if it's for decoration & it can hid the chip. Would you buy a chipped bowl? Goodwill.

A made in Japan Easter decoration or planter? I'm going towards Easter decoration since it looks like it can hold eggs to make myself feel better since it's chipped & finding vintage Easter stuff around here isn't an easy feat. I forget what I paid for this, but I think I paid $1.99. From Value Village. Make me feel a little better about the purchase.. is the chip that bad?
If you can't see it, the chip is in the top left corner on the bottom picture.

AWESOME FIND! LOVE '80's!!! A Gremlins pencil case from 1984! It's well loved & I'm getting the sloppy seconds, but sloppy seconds aren't always that bad - I'm not going to feel bad about leaving a mess. $1.99 with some other random junk in a bag, which was donated back to the shop. From Talize.

Also didn't mention. I bought Film Threat with Courtney Love on the cover. I'm a Courtney Love fan & collector, but had sold off most of my collection when I moved out of my parents house. Slowly building it up, but with only what I find in the thrifts, other than CDs. Was very cool to find such a rare magazine in BMV for $1.99. Wasn't expecting this one.

PS: will be checking out a new Goodwill later this week! Hope it brings good tidings & cheer.

Thrift Share Monday.

Once again joining in on Thrift Share Monday...

Some more thrifts from Thursday! I`m going to start with the owl vase I bought from Value Village for $2.99. Besides my collection of hand vases, I don`t have a vase to put any flowers in. This one won`t hold the dozen roses my fiance dozen`t bring home for me, but it`ll definitely fit the dandelions I`ll pick up for myself. Just had been put on the shelf that day.

Awesome pin purchases today, flashback to 1991 - TLC, Ain`t 2 Proud 2 Beg. Got this awesome pin for $1 from Funky Junky. Noticed they now have items in the basement, sadly it looks like a bad garage sale, but on the upside it looks like the garage sale season is bringing in some new inventory.

Blue Pyrex fridgie - $5.75. Good condition. Funky Junky was selling the primary refrigerator dish set for $75 - one of the red ones was missing & lid & it was in decent condition. I decided to pass. Give me convenience or give me death, right?

Another lot of items, blue Pyrex bowl, $2.99, only fair condition, but was so concerned I wasn`t going to find anything on our thrifting expedition after 3 stores only turned up one glass (not pictured), I just had to buy it out of desperation. A pair of owl salt & pepper shakers, $1.99. I found a couple of very exciting items that left me absolutely thrilled at the same store as the shakers, I was so excited I forgot to check for chips! Came home & it has a chip out of one of the books the owl is perched upon. :( Owls from Talize, Pyrex from VV.

& last, but not least some Chateau Thierry party picks, original price 91cents. I paid 2.99, but they came in a bag with a bunch of other junk. There was some Fred ice cube trays in there that I was totally digging that I saw in Kensington Market today & together they retailed for $21.75, these were still in the packaging! From Value Village.

Also at Funky Junky.. in my previous post I poste
d a pic of some fabric - $3.99 I paid for it. They had quite a similar piece of fabric, $30 & my piece is twice the size. YAY.

Another lot of stuff.

Majority of this was picked up along with the Cabbage Patch Kids mug in the previous post earlier this week on the same day. Care Bear stickers are from Funky Junky in Kensignton Market here in Toronto, they were having a 20% off sale, whole store was on sale, stickers were usually $3 each, they were selling for $1.50 each, so I picked up 4. Taxless. Maybe it's the season, but Funky Junky used to be my favourite shop in the city, but selection has went downhill, very downhill. Maybe it'll beef up again in spring when the garage sales start again. So that was $6. Aggie & I also discovered Big Fat Burrito, my new favourite place that I had once tried years ago with an ex. $6.00. By American Greetings Corporation, 1984.

We had went into Blue Banana Market in Kensignton Market & came upon the booth with the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' merch & lo & behold at Value Village I scored a 'Keep Calm and Carry On' 2011 day planner.. wonder why someone would buy a 2011 day planner & donate it before the year even started? Their loss, my gain. I always have trouble finding a decent day planner & this is exact how I like mine. It came along in a bag with some surprises, many which I left in the parking lot, but also with a Christmas Card Record Book. I already have two of these, they are the same, but I am glad to add another one to my collection. They have been preprinted with "19 " for the date entry at the top. I started to use one of the doubles, but had stopped sending out cards, even though I have plenty. $1.99

Last but not least, a Strawberry Shortcake sheet. She's not really my type, first of all, she's a woman, second of all she's short, I like them male & taller than me. I do like sheets, but I DO NOT like sheet face, not one bit. Strawberry is good. Finding 'the vintage smell' when you get home is bad. She's OK though. $3.99 & from 1980, she's cheap & older than me... but still, she's a woman.

Total: $12.76.

Must... Blog..

Today I went with Aggie to get some plates, throwaway, non-environmentally friendly plates for a BBQ at her work, which she didn't invite me too, but that's besides the point. After Goodwill we entered Sketchville. Sherbourne & Queen here in Toronto isn't the friendliest place to visit during the night to park in a dark, unlit parking lot, where a fight is about to on the other end of the alley, which reaks like urine, by the way. A trip to Dollarama ended up with 280 throwaway, non-environmentally friendly plates, Whethers candies & us getting out alive. Afterall, I had to get back to the car so I could get back home to blog! I'm exhausted, btw. I am making myself blog before bed. I'm going to have to pop some Rockstar gum right in the mouth first thing in the morning. Just a note, in case you were concerned, I brought my thrift finds into the dollar store. There was no way I was leaving them in the car. Here is what I found.

I bought a Jenna Jameson book. I know, I know. Also bought a fun book called 'The Hungry Years' by William Leith. Both books rang in at $3.49 each (ugh!). Bought two records: Madonna 'True Blue' & Doris Days Greatest Hits. Sometimes it feels like Greatest Hits albums date back to the prehistoric age. Also got a tin full of 1980's/1990's retro pins featuring: Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Bart Simpson & Wham! The tin I gave to graciously gave to Aggie & the pins I kept for myself. There was a label on the pins stating "$2.00 Each" from the previous owner. I paid $2.99 for the lot. I see some of these pins in vintage shops in Kensington Market for $5 or more. I'm going to bed. See you in my dreams.

Total trip: $12.47!

T-Shirt Tuesday!

T-Shirt Tuesday!

Good news on two notes: the models back! & I found a setting on my camera to focus on the tags! Any hooch, this shirt I believe I bought from a shop in Kensington Market called Vintage Depot about 6 years ago. I've seen it a couple times since, once in the same shop a year or two ago & once online. At the time it was quite fitting... if I hadn't eaten too many doughnuts, it would still be fitting. I like it! Can't remember the price though. Shirt is by LSJ Sports Wear, 1986.

Hot Dog Wiffers!

A quick stop with the wife to Funky Junky in Kensington Market here in Toronto after stopped at our current favourite restaurant at Spadina & Sullivan named Pho turned up South Park magnets & hot dog wiffer stickers. One purchase was mine & the other was the wives. Can you guess which one was mine & which one was his? I'll give you a sec.

If you guessed that the hot dog wiffer stickers were mine you'd be correct. Each pack was marked $3 each, as you can see I bought the only 2 they had left. They are original scratch-n-sniff stickers from 1984 (mcmlxxxiv) by American Greetings. The South Park magnets are the wives. I told him I'd only buy them if he didn't take the packaging off, like always he didn't listen. They were only $5, still sealed, so I'll let it pass. This time. The guy cut us a deal, $10 for all. So it wasn't too bad.

Total trip: $10.

Bowls!

Bowls from Funky Monkey!

I guess I am on a bowl streak. I found these today at Funky Monkey. My first purchase from the shop. I have to say that that $1,7000 refund actually has paid off in some decent finds. You know, it's hard not to plan a party around these bowls. My only question is: what goes into "pot luck", or do we even want to know? keys?

Here are some other shots. The set cost $25 flat. I am thinking it's pretty decent price considering it's a "retro" shop & a Value Village would pretty much mark these bowls up to the same price - or higher. Remember that Beatles record that was $29.99 in Niagara Falls? & then I bought The White Album for a buck a Goodwill? Anyways, enjoy the photos. Let me know what you think should go into the pot luck bowl.

ps: do you know what era these bowls are from? i'm thinking late '60s, early '70s.

Funky Junky!

Funky Junky!

Funky Junky is one of my new favourite shops. It's here in Toronto in Kensington Market. Definitely has some amazing items, where they find them I don't know, & it's also a blast from the past. I've been in only a handful of times & have seen so much stuff I had owned growing up.. including gigantic New Kids On The Black pinbacks. They have a wide selection of vintage photography. My main collection of photography is found, not bought & I also would like to own a few post mortem photos.

One of my favourite items from this stop - still sealed Michael Jackson Glitter Glove from 1984, the real deal, original. $8.

Since it's my new favourite shop, I'm going to give it my own tag in the blog.

recommended listing after reading this post: "Black or White" by Michael Jackson.
