THRIFTASAURUS

Hello! I've been lazy as hell this week & I kinda got this feeling it's going to flow into next week too. No thrift finds for me this week! Can you believe I went to 5 thrift stores & found not one thing to bring home? It was expecting it to happen eventually, luckily it happened when I had such a great trip to Ohio!

Here are some of my Pyrex buys! I have a few more to show off next week, some of the stuff is still packed up. A nice Black Tulip 043 casserole from 1957, I guess these decorater promotionals were for Christmas according to Pyrex Love. Also another brown refrigerator dish has joined the family & also a discounted #401 Americana mixing bowl - perfect for fall! My favourite piece of Pyrex out of this lot is the Barcode. I've wanted a piece for awhile. A long while. I just need a bunch more now... I'm sure you all know how it goes, right? The retro tin is made in 1962 for Mrs. Lelands Old-Fashioned Candies.

This little angel kneehugger is just adorable, isn't she? Look at her little wings! She's about 2 inches.

I couldn't go home without this poodle from the antique market & for only $5! Rae over @ Say It Ain't So is always posting pics of the cutest plush poodles & I finally have a similar one of my own. This guy was made by Herman Pecker & Co. in Japan.

I got 3 sets of salt & pepper shakers while I was there, one is still packed away & was on my want list. These two were a surprise! I love light bulb salt & pepper shakers, I collect salt & pepper shakers, but I collect light bulb salt & pepper shakers. This set has a sticker from '73 & has a saying on the bottom "WATT FUN!" - haha, get it? The other set, I liked because Humpty Dumpty looked a little sinister. I like that.

You know, maybe not finding anything this week was the thrift gods telling me to take it easy... unpack your crap, get it together! You got enough stuff!

I know Halloween just ended, but hey, the thrift stores were dousing out their Christmas goods on November 1st - when are you all decorating for Christmas?

If you found anything second hand shopping this week, I'd love to see what it is & for you to share below!

Thanks for reading & thrift on...

THRIFTASAURUS

This week I had a major thrift disappointment. I was in one of my regular haunts, looking at the t-shirts when a bin of bakeware rolled out, I strolled over & Jadeite Fire King bowl didn't even settle in before I nabbed it off the shelf. Maybe I got to cocky after finding the bowl. This was probably my favourite thrift score so far this year & on my birthday - thrifting god upon me! Strolled along, I gently placed it in a basket wrapping it in a pair of linens I planned to resell to support an antique mall habit. I also stuck in a very small Fire King milk glass bowl I had never seen before, but didn't really want.. I just felt on fire after finding the Jadeite. I have never seen Jadeite on a shelf before. So, I get to the cash, I pick a t-shirt out of the basket & the tiny little bowl got caught on it somehow & DRRRROP.. smack right into the center of the Jadeite, smashing to bites & pieces. I've only broken one other thing in a thrift store & it was my nieces fault. I freaked out (I am not sure about you, but as soon as I pick something up at the thrift store, I am attached. I cannot live without out. That woman who's best friend is the pissed on doily on Hoarders & is crying as she throws it out. I am her.) & had to leave the store & everything in the basket at the checkout. I went home cutting my day short. Later when I cooled down, I checked out the linens & the last one sold in May on eBay for $100!! I had to wait a day & in a half to go back because I was going to Buffalo (the thrift stores SUCK there, BTW), but when I went back they were still there... so I am going to replace that Jadeite bowl. Sounds good, right? It wasn't an insanely rare one, so probably $20 shipped to my cousins house in Ohio.

 Anyways,
despite breaking that bowl, I did find some pretty neat things. I did a few thrift stores in my area & some antique markets in Buffalo, NY. The thrift stores are pretty crappy there, despite Savers of course. The only things I found were these, the dolly case at AmVets & the glasses at Savers. The case was 99cents for both.

Here are some cute vintage Christmas items - I paid antique market price for the giant kneehugger, but I wanted it, no harm. I passed on a gold guy before & regretted it, glad I found another. The carolers were $10 for the set - made in Japan. Good buy or no? I thought they were cute.

Some Pyrex finds. I found the Spring Blossom Green 441 on my birthday. Last year on my birthday I found 4 of them.

Vintage napkins have become my thing, besides a set of like 1970's unopened plastic wrapped owl ones, that's all I have. I would love to own more. Something can be your thing when you only obsess over it over eBay, right?

A Sir Thrift-A-Lot staple - vintage stationary/cards. This card is for use. I paid $2.99 for it... to use it for my sisters birthday in November. She hates all things vintage. Inside it says, "Hope your birthday, sister, will be a jolly one & brings your way a year so gay that each day holds more fun!" Fitting.

A metal recipe box, I mainly bought for the vintage recipe cards inside for my Lustroware red one.

Last item, these SEXY STIRRERS swizzles. 1970s?

I also bought a box of dishes, but I don't want to unpack tonight.. I also don't plan on shopping a lot this week, so gotta save something for next week! The amount of stuff in the house as exceeded the amount of storage space (surprised?), so we are now proud owners of locker space. $40 a month for peace of mind. I had to start moving stuff down there.. but I'm procrastinating.

Hope to see what fantastic stuff you've found this week! I also found an Alice Cooper shirt from 1991 that I'm gonna try to list on eBay.

Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus

Wasn't able to get in much thrifting this week, but was still out & about a little bit.

Something about Blue Horizon.. mint condition pieces won't stop coming home with me.

Surprised to find this Rainbow Brite cake pan, along with the original instructions. I had yet to add this to my cake pan collection & according to the tag, it had been there for 3 days.

I've wanted some risque/nude woman swizzle sticks to add to my collection & finally came across some yesterday - $1.99. I'm assuming these are old & not reproductions based on similar ones on eBay.

1977 DC Comics flat sheet. I found the set of pillow cases a while back. I don't collect fitted sheets.

Some 1970's Halloween hangings. I got 3 33" Beistle Nite-Glo Skeletons from 1970 & a 1979 Beistle Flameproof banner that says Halloween - all sealed. I also got 5 of these textbooks on interior design from International Correspondence School, Scranton, PA from 1961. Most of the pictures are black & white, but interesting to flip through & read about interior design of that time period. & some stickers (70's, I am guessing).

I've never seen anything Pee Wee Herman in a thrift before, even though this is a repro, I had to pick it up. Glad to have it.

I can't wait for next week - nice shopping trip planned. Hope you all have a wonderful week, I'm going to try to scan a few images from those textbooks this week.

Can't wait to see what stuff you found this week. Have a good long weekend if you get Monday off!

I think I lugged home some pretty decent stuff. I had to cut my shopping day short this week, though. I had an unfortunate incident on the bus at the start of my trip which resulted in me smacking my head against the ceiling of the bus as I sat down at full force - OUCH! I really knocked my noggin' around, dizzy, nauseous, didn't really know what was going on... I know this may sound dramatic, but the force was so hard, I thought I might have a concussion. Well, here I am blogging today. My head is still feeling knocked around & I don't feel all there. Totally whacked. All my Pyrex finds were from last weekend, except the Golden Grapes 441.

Here are all my Pyrex friends! A Friendship underplate, a pink Gooseberry Bake Serve & Store #471.. just need the #473 & my collection is complete!, the usual Butterprint 401 & 403 & the 441 Golden Grapes.

Some beautiful Federal flower mugs & a set of 2 poodle shot glasses. Remnants of someones garage sale... still had the price tag from the sale on them.

Holt Howard winking Santa candle/tea light holders - $1.99 for the lot. Also $1.99, the largest Dala horse, made in Sweden, with sticker, which brings my collection to 3.

One of my largest & my favourite collections is vintage greeting cards. I haven't found any in quite awhile, I have been getting extremely anxious about finding some. I bought these, they had a couple more in there, but they weren't too fabulous. What is that thing coming out of the ground on that one greeting card? LOL. Anyways, the owl one was in there too. Loved the vintage owl napkins too much not to buy them.

When I picked this Easter table cloth off the rack, I wuz like, "do I want this?" I was on the fence about it, but then thought, it might be a thrift regret. We do have a table now, vintage Easter (I guess this is vintage.. the Easter bunny is evil enough) is hard to find & anyways, the old lady at the cash said it was nice. It's even boyfriend approved

Thanks for reading... hope to see your finds this week!

Sir Thrift-A-Lot in Rednesday!

Sir Thrift-A-Lot
in Rednesday.
with Cottage Sweet Cottage

I don't think I have ever blogged this early - it's before 7AM on Rednesday morning! Dog woke me early, so I've got nothing else to do before work besides watch the news. I'm usually running around like a mad man.

This knee hugger elf has experience in Christmas cheer. You can see it on his feet. On his back. On his hat... OK, so he's been around the block, but he's finally made it home.

A pair of 1980's Strawberry Shortcake salt & pepper shakers from Columbus.

I had just bought a metal recipe box a couple days before picking up this one (have yet to feature the yellow), but this Lustro Ware box was the one I was waiting for. Also a few vintage Valentines!

I'm not sure how I got into collecting Kentucky Fried Chicken collectibles, but I have.

& what's a post without Pyrex? Even if it's a common enough piece?

Have a great day!
