This past weekend I had went to Windsor for my cousins wedding, it was a nice fall themed wedding & it was great to see some of my family again. The rest of of the weekend was pretty crappy! Actually, really crappy. I won't go into to much detail, but one of the crappy things is I missed out on the curiosity shop! They are now not open on Sundays!

Below I got the neat little retro cat lanterns for a $1.99 each. The second last time I went to Windsor I had gotten a similar style owl lantern. I'm liking the cat ones better. Also down below is this beautiful vintage, made in Japan tray. Isn't awesome? This is something that will end up in the Sir Thrift-A-Lot Etsy Shop which will have it's grand opening soon! I got my new credit card yesterday.


It's a bit hard to score Fire King mugs in the shops up here, but I scored this one yesterday at Goodwill for 99cents. Also pictured is a Pyrex Sunflower Divided Casserole dish, very cheery! $5.99 at Value Village in Windsor, such great condition! The same trip as the owl, this is the piece I missed out on for $12 because the Curiosity Shop closed at 5PM on Sunday & I arrived slightly before 5 or something.

& these little vintage elves/pixies hanging off mushrooms, $1.51 each from Goodwill. These guys were made right here in Toronto.

Thrifty Things Friday: Pyrex Haul!

If you are a regular reader, you may know about 2 weeks ago I made a long trip to Windsor, Ontario stopping at maybe 15 thrift stores along the way, including a massive antique warehouse in Woodstock, Ontario. I haven't blogged much since then, have been exhausted ever since!!!, but here is my Pyrex from that trip!

My first pick up was this #403 Spring Blossom Green bowl in Burlington in OK condition.


I got a wonderful, wonderful birthday present from my friend Agnes - #503 yellow refrigerator dish. It completes my primary refrigerator dish set, minus the lids for the red ones... unless we're borrowing from some of the others I own. This piece is shown in the picture with a yellow #501 & a yellow #502, but priced reasonable, in great condition, sans lids & both found in the same both at the Woodstock antique warehouse.


Now we move onto the Pyrex found in Windsor.
#473, #472, #471 of the beautiful Daisy Cinderella Bake Serve Store Casseroles.
They were $4.99 each, in good condition, lids look a tad bit dish washed, but I love the set.



Seemed a little like a pattern on this trip - either flowers or yellow!

Another thing we saw a lot of was Ghostbusters glasses. The only one we saw that I didn't have in my collection is the one you see below, $1.99. We seen one priced at $5.00, dishwashed to hell, too! Nunzio Scoleri. How cool is he? 1989 Columbia Pictures. Ghostbusters promotional mug

How fab is that? From the tape on the back (and my god is there a disgusting amount of rotting tape on the back), you can tell it's vintage!

Thrift Haul.

As you may or may not know, this past weekend I was was driving down to Windsor from Toronto. A 4 hour drive slowly turned into a 10 hour drive stopping at fast food restaurants, random winners & the occasional thrift shop.



Now, I didn't find as much stuff as I had hoped, but I did find some amazing stuff nonetheless & better yet I found the most amazing shop - One of a Kind Antique Mall. The most gigantic antique mall I have ever been in with over 400 booths & 50 fricking thousand - 50,000 square foot of some reasonably priced & not so reasonably priced items. Some of the not so reasonably priced items that you may desire off eBay, etsy or elsewhere may still be a deal when you factor in the shipping costs. But this place is truly amazing. Quite a sight to see. We spent an hour in here. None of the items below are from the mall though, but these will come sometime this week.



Windsor has an Antique Mall, not quite as big as the one in Woodstock, ON, but good enough. There I found this beautiful Reed and Barton bowl I most likely would have passed right on by if I hadn't been drooling over it on Atomic Betties a little while ago. One of my favourite finds of the trip! The Value Village in Windsor also yielded this porcelain hand. Not sure if I am done collecting those yet. My tastes might have moved on.

Lastly for this post, I have to say my favourite find of the trip. This vintage "bowlers crying towel" might have come in handy had I lost our rock & bowl bowling game later than night. First game came in first, second game came in second & third game was such a mess everyone was bowling for everyone & scores were in the 40s & 60s. I guess rock, bowl & booze does that to you.

Windsor brought a few good finds! It brought all my favourites, retro '80s sheets, Pyrex, '80s nostalgia, NKOTB.. it was fun!

The biggest purchase was the Smurf tray - it was $15 from the curiosity shop, also purchased from the curiosity shop, ceramic shoe to add to the ceramic shoe collection - $2 & the vintage metal Bingo carrying case. As a Bingo player, I absolutely love this item & it was at a great price - $2! I had been looking for a great Bingo carrying bag for a while & almost bought a piece of crap made in China one for $1.49 from Value Village a couple months ago. Glad I waited it out. As Toronto Yardsaler would say - START THE CAR!




One thing about the curiosity shop is that they lack Pyrex, weird huh? It's quite large, but they have one shelf of Pyrex & it's all shoved in there like it could all be stuffed animals or something. There was one piece I was totally digging for $12, went back to get it before I left, they were closing as I was leaving. It wasn't the owners of the store who were closing the front, but two old woman. I asked them if I could come in & grab a piece of Pyrex I saw the day before & the one woman said really all nasty: "WE DON'T SELL PIE HERE!" uhh, OK. So, no, I never got the piece. Wasn't meant to be, I guess.

Unfortunate news, one VV that had been open for years, I have been visiting it for 14 years, closed it's doors. A new one had opened in a booming area of the city & this one was lurking in a dying plaza were there was nothing but a Bingo hall, a sex shop & about 6 closed businesses, so I guess it was a great business move. Between the 2 VV's in the city, I picked up the Pac-Man sheet ($3.99), Rainbow Brite sheet ($3.99), owl lantern ($2.99). I'm quite fond of the owl lantern. I move in about 25 days & this little guy will be a hoot on the balcony. He creeps out everyone who has seen it, especially with his glued in marble eyes.




& from Salvation Army for $2.99 you get this beautiful piece of 1.5 QT Pyrex. The lid was donated by the same size piece of Spring Blossom sitting in my cupboard.


I bought this. For $3.50. I don't know what it is, I have some guesses, but I liked it. Can you shed some light on this for me? I'd really like to know it's use! St. Vincent De Paul.



Bibles for Missions yielded nothing but this New Kids On The Block books & a large woman wearing barely any clothing following my friend & I around picking at her belly button, BEAUTIFUL. 25cents a piece.

Here are some more salt & pepper shakers. A pair you have already seen, I had bought them off eBay, but now they are in my possession - the orange & blue light bulbs. I had gotten a great deal on them - $10.04 shipped. While I was waiting for them to be deliver, I had visited Windsor & found the green pair (Made In Hong Kong) in the curiosity shop for $4, marked down from $12. The pepper shaker is a bit damaged (as you might be able to make out in the picture) & still contained pepper. Let me tell you, old pepper that has sat in a musty basement doesn't smell fantastic. I managed to get it open without damaging the shaker any further.



Onto the religious shakers, 99cents for the cent. Since one day I want to hold the world record for the most shakers (haha), I had to pick them up. They are funky enough, too, when you consider the price. I've always loved the saying, "May you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you're dead." I've never heard, "May the lord take a liking to you, but not too soon." Good buy. Value Village. Windsor.


Below you have an eBay buy & the stickers came in a bulk bag from this warehouse place I shop at for 50cents. The main reason I bought the bag of junk stickers was for the book of blank receipts that I needed. These stickers are great! Taking part in Costal Charms Nifty Thrift Tuesdays!

Some body parts & a shoe.

My trip to Windsor yielded some good finds. This is not all of them, but just a pretty selection. While there I checked out 5 stores altogether - 3 Value Villages, 1 Bibles For Missions & 1 large Antique & Curiosity Consignment Shop - it's quite large & filled to the brim. I love it. My sister hates it.

Windsor is a great thrifting city. There are no thrift stores in the county, except for a Value Village in Leamington & a small Salvation Army in the town of Essex, so quite a lot gets dumped in Windsor. Besides the t-shirts, I haven't checked out the selection of clothing. The t-shirts haven't been too interesting. I do feel that there isn't as fierce competition in the thrifts as there is here in Toronto. It's more way more relaxing & you don't have to deal with the pushy dealers who are just as bad as the pushy indie kids. Like in Hamilton, I believe there is more interest in clothing than knick-knacks, which is good, as my interests are the other way around.

Onto the finds.
You'll see them all laid out below. I was lucky enough to get to add to my vintage hand collection twice this past weekend, one in vase ($2.99, Value Village) form & I believe the other is a jewelry (ring) holder ($2, marked down from $4 at the Curiosity Shop), which was made in Japan.


This head. $2.99 at Value Village. I've seen heads like this before, not interested, as I've found them plain & boring. The cracking on this one made me fall in love with it & it was the first thing I laid eyes on when I entered the store. I also fell in love with the price. Isn't the cracking just perfect?



I absolutely adore this shoe. I'm not sure what it could have been used for, besides decor, any suggestions? Shoe was $3 at the Curiosity Shop.

I know a place, I'm sorry, I keep it a secret. The place is a secret, the prices are insanely reasonable, the place is an old warehouse & they have everything from Pyrex to the kitchen sink, even that irreplaceable bathroom toilet. They don't discriminate mug pricing, a Pyrex mug, A Federal mug, a Glasbake mug.. all 25cents. They have vinyl, 10cents, others are 50cents. The place is a tad unorganized, but it's a small price to pay & the place can sometimes be a goldmine. This is a place you should only visit every 3-4 months. Anyways, $3.45 for the lot!

A big negative of this show is they often write in PERMANENT MARKER on some items including Pyrex - W.T.F!?

Two of my favourite items are vintage Niagara Falls souvenirs & as you should know Made In Japan items, the following fall into both categories, one has that nasty permanent marker I was speaking about on the bottom.


Have been in Windsor this week, went to Detroit yesterday, let me tell you Mexican Town is not my friend...

A few more things..

Hopefully the pictures say it all.. all cups from Value Village, 49cents each, Made In Japan furry knick knack $2.99. The two mugs with orange on them are both Termocrisa & the other Anchor. I'm really fond of these stackable mugs.




Below is a Federal Bowl. It sits along with another red polka dot Federal bowl I had gotten in Niagara Falls awhile ago. This was priced 69cents & I got it at Value Village in Windsor. Speaking of Windsor.. I also got a David Allen Coe cassette (not pictured).. 99cents (pricey!).

Thought I smelled a skunk!

Here is my Made In Japan skunk! Love it! $3 marked down from $5 at that consignment shop in Windsor from when I went there awhile ago... $3.39 with it all.
