Thriftasaurus

Welcome to Thriftasaurus. I hope you join us & show off some of your amazing thrift, yard sale, antiquing & other second hand finds!

The thrifts this week were pretty lacking in the Toronto area, which is OK, I guess because they have been pretty good to me lately, don't you think? We took this past Saturday to go to a couple of little antique malls we know, along with 2 thrift stores I like that I don't get to often.

The biggest bargin was this 50% off Fire King bowl costing me only $2.50. This is from the antique market that peddles bargain containers of salsa, store brand oatmeal (that has been there for months - ew!) & half used containers of cat litter. We were also wrestling with the idea of buying a wine fridge for $15 - it worked & was in mint condition, but then we thought about the hydro bill & the fact that we can walk 10 steps to the fridge...

Despite this market being "junky", the 2 times I have been here, I have found some nice items. I also found these Pyrex pieces here. I just have to say, I really love refrigerator dishes. A lot. I also have to say, I love space savers. A lot. This one, is a JAJ Snowflake, so it's a bit rounded. I need a lid. I am confident I will find one - hopefully before Christmas! I paid $8, no tax. Good price?

Also found these New Kids On The Block dolls. My fiance complains about the amount of items we have in the home & as I am paying for the stuff, I only had Joe & he said, "did you see the other doll?" & he ran & got it, lol. Really... you're complaining, but running to get me a NKOTB doll? Silly boy.

Oh deer, pure cuteness.

Had to get this towel, loved it!

Some vintage Christmas! Cute mugs for white hot chocolate & whipped cream with a cute little vintage Santa. Mugs are made in Japan. I found a similar decanter, with polka dot pattern, but I guess after seeing someone else buy this recently it's called a Houndstooth decanter. $1.99 with lid, couldn't pass. Also couldn't pass on the egg jar. Now all I need is a few light bulb jars.

I found these 2 cute Christmas tea towels - does anyone know the maker (took a photo, but no clue what it says).

That's all this week, looking forward to seeing all the treasures everybody has acquired this week!
I won't be going tomorrow, but to everybody who is going to the Value Village sale in Canada tomorrow - Happy Hunting.

Suburban Strip Thrifting Trip

Suburban Strip Thrifting Trip!

Can you say that 5x fast? (Totally copied you
Genevieve)
Yesterday my boyfriend picked me up from work for another evening of extreme thrifting. Hitting up 9 thrift stores (among a few other non thrift stores) in 4 hours in 5 different cities. I didn't stumble upon much vintage treasures, but I had a fabulous time with my boo & am absolutely in love with my new Gooseberry bowl! $2.99 at Salvation Army.

These vintage cake toppers have a bit of a history. About a month ago at the Stoney Creek Value Village I had a vintage metal globe in my hand, they tend to price certain things outrageous here, my boyfriend tells me "they gotta make money!" & I tell him, "yeah, they aren't a collectable shop - they are a thrift store! They are charging antique mall prices." It outrages me, lol. Anyways, I had a vintage metal globe, priced at $14.99 & a Ziploc bag of vintage cake toppers, I told him I'm not gonna get the globe (was kinda ugly & expensive...) & told him to pay, shoving my debit card at him & setting the cake toppers on the counter. While I'm putting the globe back, he moves cashes, pays & it's not until we get home that I notice that he left them on the counter. Had been back to the store 3 more times & specifically looked for them the first & second time... never expected to find them. They have suffered some damage since the last time I seen them, but my favs are below.

There's about 20 of these ladies.
Butterfly Gold, not a favourite of mine, but it's growing on me. I'm collecting some Pyrex for either an eventual booth or "brick & mortar" shop. If you can believe it, there is a store downtown Toronto that was charging $25 for the 442! A 444 Gooseberry (not pink) was $35 at another store & not even in very good condition!

I love vintage stationery, especially strawberry scented Strawberry Shortcake.

Eager Beavers tea towel by Ulster & a set of toaster salt & pepper shakers.

This weekend I am going to an antique market & tomorrow I am going to get a fantastic piece of Pyrex. I'll be posting it soon. I'm excited!

Sir Thrift-A-Lot: Flea Market Finds

As always, some fun finds & linking up with Flea Market Finds with Her Library Adventures.

My absolute favourite find this week is this The White Spider Rabbit - The White Rabbit - drinking glass, priced at 99cents from Goodwill! I looked, but can't find any information on the glass. Alice In Wonderland drinking glass set? I've never seen any glasses like it before. Anybody got anything?

We brought my up cat, Miss Hands (named after the infamous Mr. Hands), to Pickering to finish up her spaying, she got her stitches snipped & she's all done - yay! & I went to the Value Village up in Ajax, which has never produced anything too interesting, but picked up this Pyrex jar, which smells so strongly of paprika that when I opened it in the car the scent instantly filled up the whole car & my boyfriend yelled at me to close it.
(vintage 1975 Pyrex, Corning birds jar)

OMG - it looks so filthy because i had it soaking with dish soap & water.
It's actually extremely clean! Just want that overbearing stench of paprika gone!
Some 7UP Uncola glasses - I see these often, but these were in absolute MINT condition, so too good to pass up.

Another Anchor dominos bowl. They had another one in the shop, but I DON'T BUY CHIPPED THINGS.. anymore.

A KISS record for 99cents & some more Treasure Troll wrapping paper!

I just wanted to post these, an eBay buy - silicone cupcake cups! Love the colours & they were about 6 bucks. Absolutely perfect for pizza cupcakes!

Vintage Thrift Scores: Spring Cleaners Rule!

Early week thrifting has paid off, it has been a great haul so far this week and this is far from over - I've still got a trip back home to Windsor, Ontario which is always a great thrifting experience.

Sir Thrift-A-Lot Windsor Story:
The last time I was in Windsor my friend Meaghan had told me that one of the Value Village stores had burnt down.. I was stunned, as one of the other ones had just recently closed it's doors - the original Windsor Value Village. We get there & there was merely a fire in the back dumpster, still open. Last week, the Dollarama in the plaza where the Value Village was burnt to a crisp - arson? & my dear sister tells me that the Value Village is currently closed. What is it with me, this Value Village & fire? I am glad nobody was hurt in the Dollarama fire & hope the best for the employees who may now be out of a job, but also hope that the Value Village has reopen by the time I go down.. She told me it was not touched by flames, but everything in the plaza is closed.

Onto my vintage thrift scores for the week...

Pink Gooseberry! My pink Pyrex collection is quite small, I only have one other piece of pink Gooseberry that I can recall at the moment. I was on cloud 9 when I found this grimy, in mint condition 470-C serve & store with a chipped lid. I don't mind the chipped lid, I found about 6 of them recently, all 470-C for 99cents.
And... a boy can never have enough Butterprint. Another 403 in amazing condition.
(Gooseberry: Value Village. Others: Talize)

Anchor domino bowls.

Something cute to put away for my retro Christmas - 3 unused Strawberry Shortcake candles from the '80s. 99cents a piece. Another seasonal piece, a little to late this year, but lots of Easter's to come - a vintage Easter tea towel.

I absolutely adore the graphics on these vintage owl mugs - they couldn't be more perfect! What do you think? 99cents each at Goodwill.

Knitting. It's added to the pile of crap in my head that I want to learn how to do. I'd love to make a huge blanket and a pair of pants. I had been looking for the past couple weeks for a book that would be like "the complete knitters book", was even gonna buy a super crappy one off Amazon. This was EXACTLY what I was looking for! Found this one at Value Village (priced at $4.99, with the original cover price being $4.95.. GRR.. but hey, who knows when I'd find another one). Next on the list is a good set of knitting needles. $3.49 (Goodwill) for the coffee table book - STREET WORLD. Great pics.

Pitcher & set of 8 cups, a Made in Holland Rosti Ware pitcher designed by Koen de Winter for Rosti. Goodwill.

Lastly, spotted by the besties brown eye while she was gabbing on her celly, this 1950's swizzle sticks. I love vintage naughty things.

Thrifting this Friday in Windsor.
Thrifting next Thursday in Hamilton, Niagara Falls.

Sir Thrift-A-Lot: Flea Market Finds

Sir Thrift-A-Lot
in Flea Market Finds.

All kinds of stuff from every decade this week from all over the GTA!

I've been on the hunt for a vintage metal cake tray to bake quaint little cakes for the boyfriend, but never expected to find one at a thrift store & it was priced to move at $3.99. It not only made it back to my house, it also made the cashier quite nostalgic about her mothers cooking - the best cooking she's ever had. It made me remember the news piece I had seen on how when something is "made with love" it "tastes better". read it here. It was found at Salvation Army.

Also found at another Salvation Army is this mint condition 475-B Spring Blossom Green piece - $5.99. Besides the 40 year old masking tape holding it every which way, there was not a scratch on it.

Dukes of Hazzard flat sheet... have wanted it... $2.99. Value Village.

Random Pyrex lids. You never know where it's better half will turn up. Two clear ones from Goodwill, the Butterfly Gold from Value Village. & $2.52 for The Pyrex Cookie Jar. I have seen lots of these, but they have always been so scratched up! Glad I finally snagged one! I have the cracker one already, just one more to go! The Butterfly Gold casserole was only $4.99 at Value Village - needs a good scrubbin', but afterward she'll look good as new!

Pretty in Pink soundtrack on vinyl, $1.99, still in packaging... Value Village.

Lastly, two little owls.
