Found 1970's Christmas Photos!

Who loves short shorts? That gnome sure does. I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with older photos - the date on the bottom, is that the development date or is that the date the photo was taken? If it's the photo date, would the camera automatically log the date or something? If it's the photo date, who still has their Christmas decorations up in April? I took mine down earlier this month!

The gnome one is my favourite. Found at Goodwill last week or something.

Last month the wife & I rented a car & went up to Vaughan Mills shopping mall & outlets. It was there that I picked myself up a pair of Fallen T-Guns from West 49 inside the mall for $49.99, on sale. The only stylish black shoe that was suitable for both work (mandatory) & social life.

Well, I got this shoe in mid February. I wore the shoe on daily basis for nothing out of the ordinary - didn't even wear the shoe for skateboarding. Wore the shoes to work, on the subway, walking down the street, taking out the dog. Like I said, nothing out of the ordinary. I will say, it is winter here, but that should have nothing to do with how destroyed this shoe became. I noticed my feet becoming wet in the first week & a half of March. I never investigated, since I assumed the water was leaking in.. how could my shoes that aren't even a month old already have a hole in them? I just bought myself a great pair of Element shoes for work & a delicious green pair of DVS shoes - both were the same price of those Fallen shoes, $49.99. My advice, don't buy Fallen. Kept the rocks in the shoes, keepin' it real.

Fabulous Finds!

I'm quite happy with my recent finds in this post!

You'll see I found some vintage photos, the photos date from the 50's, 60's & 70's. When time permits, I shall scan them for closer enjoyment. One Christmas shot has got a gnome in it. The Hole 'Live Through This' cassette has been on my wishlist for about 3-4 years. I check out the cassette section specifically for it every time I thrift. I knew persistence would pay off, I just didn't think it would take this long. I never mentioned it, but I had bought the CD from Goodwill a few months ago for a buck. I already own about 5 copies, but I hate to see it in a thrift for a buck. Best album ever made. 51cents for the cassette. $3.03 for the photos.

The Anything Book. I had missed this during my trips to Goodwill, as it has been there since February 23rd, paid 99cents. It's blank inside, beautiful pink, soft corduroy. Absolutely beautiful. I love it. I picked up this ceramic shoe yesterday in Vaughan Mills. I'm adding it to my ceramic shoe collection... now have 2! It's a souvenir from Chateau Frontenac, Quebec, Canada. Quite an exciting little piece. Came in a bag with a bunch of other unmentionables for $2.99.


Now onto some buttons. Got the lot for $1.99. New Kids on the Block Christmas button, Alf "No Problem!" button from 1987, & a sexy Hulk Hogan pin from 1985. I had forgotten completely about that sexy piece of meat. Also pictured is a Tag Team "Whoomp! There It Is!" cassette single - 99cents.

Vintage 1974 1 Year Diary

Today was a terrible snowy day in Toronto, last week people were sporting short sleeves at one point & today, back to winter jackets, hats & boots. Perfect time for thrift. Since I also find thrifting therapeutic it was another perfect time. I got a wonderful letter from Canada Revenue today stating they reassessed my 2009 taxes & I owe them $652.38! & I owe them again for last year, even after getting taxed almost 12% of my pay. I guess free health care comes in handy when you actually are sick & actually do need expensive testing. All items found at Value Village.

Anyways, not much in the way of finds, only thing I'm loving is this little vintage journal, err, 1 year diary. So small, could fit in my palm.

Today I'm just sharing a wonderful New Kids On The Block Canadian tour shirt I picked up at Value Village for my T-Shirt Tuesday! It was priced OK at $5.99 as they go for much more online. Their 1989 tour.

Bowling pin & ball salt & pepper shakers found by Aggie in the depths of a Mississauga Goodwill - $1.51... I guess Goodwill pricing is dumb everywhere now. Bowling ball is cute.. got the 3 holes in it, same as a real ball would.


Vintage barware novelty glass. "You asked for it on the rocks", with all the different kinds of delicious liquors listed on the rim (Rye, Vermouth, Brandy, Water, Scotch). Well water, not really. Two rocks are super glued on the inside. Great gag. $1.99, Value Village.

1980's Pee Wee Herman watch, eBay purchase, new in package. Ending price was $13.50 (can you believe it?) & shipping was $3.35. At the end of the transaction, the watch cost me $16.99 Canadian. Can't wait to be sporting it.


The thrifts have been dry lately. I've been to many in the past week or two & have spent just over $10, but have picked up some cute, funky little items. I picked up a cassette I've been looking for for about 3 years! Will be joining in a little later today in Linda's Junkin' Finds Friday, so until then...

I'm taking part in Linda @ A La Carte's Junkin' Finds Friday #19 today!

Isn't this Bingo glass just absolutely fabulous? My mediocre photography skill doesn't capture the beautiful vintage look of the glass. I'm guessing it's from the '40s or '50s. Had found it in Windsor last Friday & it had only cost 69cents! Quite a fun story to go a long with it too. I had plans to go with my friend Meghan to Bingo while I was down in Windsor, I told her I'd bring a glass & a 2L, but she needed to bring her own glass. I also told her I'd be all bingo'd out sporting my Bingo Boutique shirt from 1984, the year of my birth. You can check it out below. The Federal bowl is quite unexciting, but a nice addition to the growing collection. A price of $3.03 (that bizarre new Goodwill pricing...), it was bought today. There is a new brute of a woman who works there, one of the rudest people I've ever come across. I've only spoken to her on one occasion, which was today inquiring about the new price of DVDs, but every time I go in now she's bitching, complaining about something work related extremely loud, often followed by some of the filthiest curse words. Was even telling another staff member proudly how she yells at children's parents to get them to "clean the f--k up after them" right in front of their kids, because she "didn't care" it's not "her problem". Sounds like a winner, right?



Onto these exciting Made In Japan salt & pepper shakers. $3.99 at Value Village, definitely a fair price at VV. I had picked these up & they both came crashing down to the floor, from 3 shelves up. I'm so shocked they never chipped!

New Kids On The Block 1990 Magic Summer Promo Cup!

Had a request for more pictures, here they are. This is a plastic promotional McDonald's cup from the New Kids On The Block's 'Magic Summer Tour'. Remember, this only cost me 10cents.

Some body parts & a shoe.

My trip to Windsor yielded some good finds. This is not all of them, but just a pretty selection. While there I checked out 5 stores altogether - 3 Value Villages, 1 Bibles For Missions & 1 large Antique & Curiosity Consignment Shop - it's quite large & filled to the brim. I love it. My sister hates it.

Windsor is a great thrifting city. There are no thrift stores in the county, except for a Value Village in Leamington & a small Salvation Army in the town of Essex, so quite a lot gets dumped in Windsor. Besides the t-shirts, I haven't checked out the selection of clothing. The t-shirts haven't been too interesting. I do feel that there isn't as fierce competition in the thrifts as there is here in Toronto. It's more way more relaxing & you don't have to deal with the pushy dealers who are just as bad as the pushy indie kids. Like in Hamilton, I believe there is more interest in clothing than knick-knacks, which is good, as my interests are the other way around.

Onto the finds.
You'll see them all laid out below. I was lucky enough to get to add to my vintage hand collection twice this past weekend, one in vase ($2.99, Value Village) form & I believe the other is a jewelry (ring) holder ($2, marked down from $4 at the Curiosity Shop), which was made in Japan.


This head. $2.99 at Value Village. I've seen heads like this before, not interested, as I've found them plain & boring. The cracking on this one made me fall in love with it & it was the first thing I laid eyes on when I entered the store. I also fell in love with the price. Isn't the cracking just perfect?



I absolutely adore this shoe. I'm not sure what it could have been used for, besides decor, any suggestions? Shoe was $3 at the Curiosity Shop.

I know a place, I'm sorry, I keep it a secret. The place is a secret, the prices are insanely reasonable, the place is an old warehouse & they have everything from Pyrex to the kitchen sink, even that irreplaceable bathroom toilet. They don't discriminate mug pricing, a Pyrex mug, A Federal mug, a Glasbake mug.. all 25cents. They have vinyl, 10cents, others are 50cents. The place is a tad unorganized, but it's a small price to pay & the place can sometimes be a goldmine. This is a place you should only visit every 3-4 months. Anyways, $3.45 for the lot!

Two of my favourite items are vintage Niagara Falls souvenirs & as you should know Made In Japan items, the following fall into both categories, one has that nasty permanent marker I was speaking about on the bottom.

Lost 25 Pounds!

My Pee Wee Herman t-shirt came in the mail today, along with another surprise! Yippie! So to celebrate the loss of 25 pounds & the addition to my t-shirt & Pee Wee Herman collection I thought I'd post the second picture of myself on my blog, if I can remember the other one didn't include my face, just my beluga body. I haven't posted a photo of myself online in over 4 years, so I consider this one large step. And before you inquire, yes, the glasses were needed inside & I found them! They were free!

So something I've been struggling with for the past few years is my weight. At my heaviest I weighed 255 pounds. I was disgusted with myself. Atop this post you have seen my weight as of 3:07AM on March 4th, 2011. This weekend I'll be eating a bunch of goodies & snacks, but by the 11th, I am hoping to be at 224. We'll see..

Smile, Things Couldn't Possibly Get Worse!

This has to be one of my favourite finds of last year. A pleasant present from Aggie, priced $5.99 at Value Village, this Made In Japan plate had been in the store for over 20 days. It's price had most likely put a lot of shoppers off, but you'd think the uniqueness of the plate would have made at least one shopper pick it up at that price. Not haggling, but Aggie simply asked why the plate was priced so high & the worked marked it down to $3.99 - totally purchasable. Also one of my favourite gifts of the year. Thanks! We had picked this up in the east end back in November. The character, the writing, the saying - it all reminds me of something Paula Co. would have put out, but they mark all their stuff Paula Co. Nothing but JAPAN on the back.
