Must... Blog..

Today I went with Aggie to get some plates, throwaway, non-environmentally friendly plates for a BBQ at her work, which she didn't invite me too, but that's besides the point. After Goodwill we entered Sketchville. Sherbourne & Queen here in Toronto isn't the friendliest place to visit during the night to park in a dark, unlit parking lot, where a fight is about to on the other end of the alley, which reaks like urine, by the way. A trip to Dollarama ended up with 280 throwaway, non-environmentally friendly plates, Whethers candies & us getting out alive. Afterall, I had to get back to the car so I could get back home to blog! I'm exhausted, btw. I am making myself blog before bed. I'm going to have to pop some Rockstar gum right in the mouth first thing in the morning. Just a note, in case you were concerned, I brought my thrift finds into the dollar store. There was no way I was leaving them in the car. Here is what I found.

I bought a Jenna Jameson book. I know, I know. Also bought a fun book called 'The Hungry Years' by William Leith. Both books rang in at $3.49 each (ugh!). Bought two records: Madonna 'True Blue' & Doris Days Greatest Hits. Sometimes it feels like Greatest Hits albums date back to the prehistoric age. Also got a tin full of 1980's/1990's retro pins featuring: Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Bart Simpson & Wham! The tin I gave to graciously gave to Aggie & the pins I kept for myself. There was a label on the pins stating "$2.00 Each" from the previous owner. I paid $2.99 for the lot. I see some of these pins in vintage shops in Kensington Market for $5 or more. I'm going to bed. See you in my dreams.

Total trip: $12.47!

It's Just Another...

Manic Monday!

Here is another quicky, a pack of Cyndi Lauper stickers from the '80s - 1985 to be exact by Mutza Rellla Inc. There's a total of 30 of them & they are in amazing condition. $5 for the lot. Score!

Next is my American flag mug. Do you like? 49cents from Value Village a little while ago. Both of these purchases were made after I started keeping track of my total.. so they're gonna be added!

Total: $5.55!

Pump Up The Jam

Another quick stop in stop in at VV picked me up some new vinyl. One again, still sans record player. One vinyl is a definite awesome addition to my collection & is one of my favourite albums of all time - Technotronic. Tax was a little weird: ended up costing me $6.23.

Quick stop!

Today I made a quick stop over at Value Village with the wife. I was there the other day when my friend Aggie & I stopped in quickly while picking up some dog food for the pup. He had the mad poops & a trip to the vet & $360 later, he's getting back to normal. Throwing up yellow bile, orange water poops & not drinking or eating was all very upsetting to see him do. He's almost back to his big, cuddly, goofy self. Well, I bought some stuff the other day, too, but you'll have to wait to see that stuff. You're also going to have to wait to see what I picked up in Windsor while I was there. Shout out to my sis who went to the thrifts with me. We picked up my niece from her fathers house & she came into Bibles For Missions. She's never been in a thrift before according to my sister & one thing she said to me put a smile on my face, "there's a lot of weird stuff in here." I bought her a Hannah Montana game. She wouldn't play it with me because it said GIRLS ONLY!

Anyways, here is what I picked up today:
Nine Inch Nails notebook (official merch) $1.99
Two packs of Sanford Mr. Sketch scented markers $1.99
Fred Fill'ER Up Coin Bank $1.99

The Nine Inch Nails book was pretty cool. If I do end up going back to school this is going to be one of my notebooks. The Sanford markers.. my mom wouldn't buy these for me when I was a child, she claims they were too expensive. There are two sets here, one is quite used & doesn't have scents anymore & one looks barely used & you can still smell all the beautiful scents. My favourite is the orange. Always has been (my cousin had these markers in school...). You can read more about my Fred Fill'ER Up Coin Bank RIGHT HERE!!! if you like!

Total trip: $6.74.

Fill'ER Up Coin Bank from Fred!

Fill'ER Up Coin Bank from Fred!

I picked up this neat little coin bank today at Value Village for a mere $1.99. It's in pretty decent condition & I imagine that it sat on someones shelf & wasn't really used too often. I bought it for the wife since he's into cars.. he didn't really care whether I bought it or not though. I thought it was quite neat & I always tell him he has bad taste in things...

So the deal is, you buy it empty & you slowly fill it up with your spare change as the gauge slowly moves from empty to full. It's a fun way to save up your spare change to later fuel the economy. When it's full, why not take the change to Sally Anne's or Goodwill & buy yourself a fab new sweater? Or a rad coffee cup? Or some vintage stationary? I highly doubt that you're going to lucky enough to come across one in the thrifts, it's possible, but again, I doubt it. If you're digging it race on over to Pop Deluxe & you can pick one up for yourself for $15.99, heck, pick up 2! Buy one for your friend, sister, kids. See who can fill it up faster.

Again, you can pick one up right here!

D.U.M.E. spells certain doom!

DUME Candle here on WTF? Wednesdays!

Here you have an original DUME candle from 1977 made by The Candle Corporation of America. Ever wanted to "open the doors to hell"? Bring your enemies problems, bad luck, sickness, poverty, failure, enemies & death? Than this is the candle for you! DUME candles can still be purchased today, but finding an original DUME candle from the '70s, unburned, is a pretty rare find. Death Unto My Enemies. Through searches about DUME candles on Google they come with grave warnings - only use this candle as a last resort! You write the name of your enemy on the candle in the space provided, burn to the name & blow out the candle. Concentrate on the incantation. Repeat the following ceremony for the following name. Would you ever use one?

I bought this awhile ago, but after I started keeping track of the total of my purchases. This candle cost $2.25.

Just wanted you all to know...

Burt's Bees Baby Bee Bubble Bath Review

Burt's Bees Baby Bee Bubble Bath Review.

First off, I don't think I have ever typed a sentence with more B's in my life. Secondly, as an adult I love to use baby products more often than products intended for adults. Why do you ask? Most baby products are made to be gentler on the skin & so I often use creams, baby wipes & lotions.

I had a great opportunity to try out a bottle of Burt's Bees Baby Bee Bubble Bath. My discount bottle of grape scented no name bubble bath was down to it's last legs & I was in the market for a new, interesting bubble bath. It is recommended that you use 3-4 capfuls directly under the running water, but I have found 2 have done the trick! After the tub is full, when you get in, you'll be able to notice the softness of the bubbles. Being 98.03% natural, the bubble bath does not dry out my skin like many of the scented bubble baths on the market that are full of nasty unmentionables that 98.03% of the population cannot pronounce. Burt's Bees Baby Bee Bubble Bath has long lasting bubbles, yet another thing most of them other bubble baths don't have. Usually half way through the bath the bubbles have fizzled out, but using The Bees they tend to last right until then. A great thing for babies & adults alike is this bubble bath is tear free.
This plant-based cleansing complex is combined with nourishing soy protein to wash baby’s skin without irritation. Glycerin is added to moisturize and a touch of vanilla extract helps calm and comfort.

You come out of the bath feeling calm & relaxed, smelling great & with soft skin. I highly recommend this to everybody, with or without babies.

T-Shirt Tuesday!

T-Shirt Tuesday!

Good news on two notes: the models back! & I found a setting on my camera to focus on the tags! Any hooch, this shirt I believe I bought from a shop in Kensington Market called Vintage Depot about 6 years ago. I've seen it a couple times since, once in the same shop a year or two ago & once online. At the time it was quite fitting... if I hadn't eaten too many doughnuts, it would still be fitting. I like it! Can't remember the price though. Shirt is by LSJ Sports Wear, 1986.

Media Blitz!

Good old Goodwill! They had 50% off their VHS & CD's today! 50% off $1.00.. that's 50cents each! I picked up a few i wouldn't have bought otherwise, some just for kicks! Check out the titles below.. $4.00 for 8 CD's! You can't go wrong.. BTW, remember Serial Joe? Especially the early days? Well either way, check out their video for Obsession, posted on Youtube by yours truly, at the end of this post. (less than 48 hours until Windsor!)

I also got a bunch of magazines...

& added to my vinyl collection is a KISS record & a GUNS AND ROSES record. 99cents each at once again, Goodwill.

Total trip: $16.25

WTF? Wednesday.

Why in the world did these make it onto the floor? Who would really pay $2.99 (plus taxes!! since this is Value Village) for a bunch of pop tabs? Yeah, you can donate them so kids can get wheel chairs & stuff, but wouldn't the $3 cash do a hell of a lot more than 106 pop tabs? If they were at Goodwill it would be somewhat of a different story, as they are non-profit, unlike Value Village..

Lil' Love Monkey!

Look what the wife bought me!

IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE!!!

T-Shirt Tuesday!

Here is a t-shirt I consider a gem. Not only for nostalgia purposes, but because the shirt was most likely only given out to a select few individuals & it is still in ace condition. I remember going to Sam The Record Man when they had their $3.99 boxing day specials, back before the internet. They selected 4 or 6 new release titles & offered them for $3.99. There were lines 50 people deep & when the doors opened all hell broke lose. My mom worked at the same mall growing up & on boxing day a woman threw another woman through a glass window at the Levi store. How classy. This shirt set me back $2.99 + tax, got it at Value Village. Another memory is of coming to Toronto from Burlington (when I moved up there with my family) & being in absolute awe over the size & the cool selections, always pricey though - even when they had their closing sale at their Yonge Street location. The sign was also quite awesome. I wish it had won to become a historical landmark & would not have been destroyed. Pictures are crappy, models at work & I'm finally started to look on the upside from the cold. Windsor on Friday!

Enjoy with me, the final lighting of the Sam the Record Man sign on Yonge Street here in Toronto.

Total trip: $3.38.

Red Polka Dots, Pitbulls & Bambi.

Today I went to a couple shops just to get out of the house & give 'em one last visit before I leave on Friday for Windsor! Where surprisingly enough, my sister wants to accompany me to the thrifts. She claims she's looking for old, antique, vintage picture frames. Hopes she finds some & gets bitten by the thrift bug!

So above is a fabulous lamp shade with red polka dots on it, as you can see. I have seen a couple of these before, so they are common. Apartment Therapy was sort've an inspiration for this purchase. It matches my red polka dot Federal bowl (picture) almost to a t. Wouldn't they look great together with the even smaller version of the red polka Federal bowl on a shelf? I agree. They would. Well, I'll need a lamp base. Any ideas? Colour suggestions? While I'm waiting, I'll mention that the shade cost $2.99 & since it was a Goodwill purchase, it had no tax. Bambi was also purchased at Goodwill, 99cents! You'll also get a close up of Bambi below. Also pictured above is one bandana that says 'pitbull' all over it. I actually bought 2, for 99cents each, but I put one on my dog, who happens to be a pitty. These were taxable.

Total trip: $6.21.

Mini Charlie!

Had been waiting for pay day so I could buy this beautiful puppy from Urban Outfitters. Do you like? He cost me $20.. which is fair enough considering the prices there are sky high.

Winners Hotel Collection

Winners Hotel Collection. In late August I had seen this container at Goodwill for $4.99 with the original price tag from Winners at $9.99. It was in moderate condition & with the many Winners that are accessible from my home, I had great faith in finding a brand new one, since I remember seeing some of the Hotel Collection before. The Hotel Collection seems to be slimming in stores & all they had were fugly soap dishes & soap dispensers. I'd never use bar soap at a sink & I already have a nice square soap dispenser of the same colour that matches my square bathroom sink perfectly. So, a week goes by & so does a Goodwill Friday Fever 50% off sale. When I went in the next time, I didn't expect it to still be there. Lo & behold, I found it resting in the exact same place where I put it down. This time, instead of the dreaded grease pencil, it had a price tag of $2.99! Sweet deal. Yes it's in moderate condition & sits under my discounted DKNY towel from Winners ($2.50) & an very intense bottle of soap also from Winners, $6.99. Again, for any American readers, Winners is like your TJ Maxx. In case you are wondering, this is going to replace my current Q-Tip jars that I spent about 7 years collecting 3 of them. My first one originated at Bulk Barn & they were discontinued, so that left only the thrifts.

Total cost: $2.99. taxless.

a fire king jock!

Today I ventured out to quite a few stores.. 6 in all. I only bought to items, both in the shops near Regent Park that I don't frequent too often. The first item is a Fire King container. I didn't know it at the time, but it has a chip in it. Yup, my luck. $2.99. It's still usable, yes, but it still has a chip in it. I learned my lesson on the Federal Bowls, I didn't leave this container on the ground to be stomped on! I also got this neat towel. It's length is that of a scarf, so is the all around size. I am assuming that it's meant for the gym, hence the "JOCK". This set me back 50 cents & this ain't Value Village people, no tax! If I ever end up at the gym, this will be my sweat rag, after it's been washed, of course!

Today's trip: $3.49. taxless.

M.I.A.

I've been M.I.A. lately, but I have been visiting the shops often. Life has gotten in the way & the thrifts are therapeutic for me. Today as I my pup, Charlie, was getting picked up to finally come home, we made a detour over to the Value Village in Mississauga. I've never been there & the area reminds me of the newest Value Village in Windsor - it's in the area of a bunch of stores such as Best Buy, Winners, AMC Theatres, etc. Anyways, I picked up a few good things.

Biggest surprise was all the early '90s hip hop vinyl. They had many titles I have never heard of, but would have liked to add to my collection. I can't even recall the titles, but my friend Aggie sure knew some of them! The price of vinyl is quite steep there, not as steep as second hand record shops, but steep enough. $1.99 per record. I picked up:

Technotronic - Get Up (Before The Night is Over) (1990)
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby (1990)
Wrecks-N-Effect (assuming this one is self titled) (1989)
Technotronic - This Beat Is Technotronic (1990)
C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (1990)

I'm still sans record player, but I did find one in the toys section today that I had considered buying, but again, without a needle. There is a record player I have my eye on, it's at my favorite shop that isn't full of second hand goods, Urban Outfitters, but not for the clothes, for the stuff!

Below is a new addition to the stationary collection. I think I have the exact same one or something similar to it. I love these little retro notepads. They are my favorite part of my stationary collection. This is Paula's Instant-Letters! The easiest way out for people who hate writing letters! I wish I had my scanner hooked up, I'd scan some of the great pages inside! Bought for $1.99 with a bunch of other stationary that I didn't keep. 1980, by C.M. Paula Co. Cincinnati, OH.

Last but not least are two more items I purchased today. One is this beautiful vintage hand vase, hand things are another item that I absolutely enjoy, especially vintage. The other item is a pleather dice box. I find it quite interesting & I do indeed have nothing to put it in, but I am sure I will soon enough. I think it'll go well with a couple of my items if I ever decide to have a shelf full of beautiful, matched up things. $2.99 for the box, $1.99 for the vase.

Total trip: $19.52.
