Sir Thrift-A-Lot: Flea Market Finds

Sir Thrift-A-Lot
in Flea Market Finds.

All kinds of stuff from every decade this week from all over the GTA!

I've been on the hunt for a vintage metal cake tray to bake quaint little cakes for the boyfriend, but never expected to find one at a thrift store & it was priced to move at $3.99. It not only made it back to my house, it also made the cashier quite nostalgic about her mothers cooking - the best cooking she's ever had. It made me remember the news piece I had seen on how when something is "made with love" it "tastes better". read it here. It was found at Salvation Army.

Also found at another Salvation Army is this mint condition 475-B Spring Blossom Green piece - $5.99. Besides the 40 year old masking tape holding it every which way, there was not a scratch on it.

Dukes of Hazzard flat sheet... have wanted it... $2.99. Value Village.

Random Pyrex lids. You never know where it's better half will turn up. Two clear ones from Goodwill, the Butterfly Gold from Value Village. & $2.52 for The Pyrex Cookie Jar. I have seen lots of these, but they have always been so scratched up! Glad I finally snagged one! I have the cracker one already, just one more to go! The Butterfly Gold casserole was only $4.99 at Value Village - needs a good scrubbin', but afterward she'll look good as new!

Pretty in Pink soundtrack on vinyl, $1.99, still in packaging... Value Village.

Lastly, two little owls.

Pop Culture Madness: Flea Market Finds!

Sir Thrift-A-Lot
@ Flea Market Finds

Recent days have provided some really neat finds! It's seems like after Christmas it's "out with the old, in with the new".

These very cool comic appetizer plates from CB2, still with their stickers for 99
¢ each from Goodwill. I had convinced myself there was a set of four, but further investigation online proved there was only 3 to the set, that they are no longer available & they originally only cost $1.95! From Talize I was stoked to come across this Saved By the Bell board game from 1992 by Pressman. Love owning the original 1992 & not the 2010 reissue! Kelly was always my favourite & the episode I always remember is the one where Jessie gets addicted to caffeine pills. It seems pretty popular. "I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO EXCITEEEEED! I'M SO... SCARED..."

I had read that some other people were suffering from the same fate - a lack of owls. I was just about to leave the ghetto Salvation Army when I looked to my left & spotted the following: a vintage Otagiri made in Japan letter holder & tape dispenser, both $1.99. Unfortunately both have tiny chips & the tape dispenser is missing the tape holder, but still couldn't pass them up! And these two made in Japan napkin holders for $2.99 each! One has a chipped nose, but the other one is pristine. Chips are so unfortunate.

Michelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cake pan from 1989 by Wilton for $4.04 from Goodwill. I was lucky enough to score some discounted read & green decorative icing from Winners for $1.20 a tube, regular $3.99 at their discounted price! The Golf Gab notepad by Vagabond Creations from Value Village with such corny phrases as: "I'll be teed off if you don't write", "Thought I'd get on the ball & write", "You're my bag!", "Hope you're feeling up to par!". Love these little notepads, especially the ones from Paula Co! One of my favourite recent finds - a Dick Tracy corkboard made by Disney probably in 1990 or 1991! I had previously bought a corkboard to display my pins (badges), but never got around to it yet, was rather plan - this is killer! $2.99 from Value Village!

Some linen finds:
an almost mint condition vintage Strawberry Shortcake pillow case! 99cents from Goodwill.
a pretty decent yellow & mushroom table cloth, probably destined for my etsy shop!
a pretty rare Felix The Cat duvet cover!! I love the design. If I was crafty I would love to make some pillows out of it, but alas, I am not & probably never will. We'll see if this makes it in the shop!

Sir Thrift-A-Lot: Flea Market Finds

I love joining in with Her Library Adventures.. for FLEA MARKET FINDS! I'm joining up again this week bringing some of my wicked finds to the party. (Above: Americana shaker $1.99 at Value Village).

Two pretty Store & Serve Blue Horizon Pyrex dishes (473, 472) in such pristine condition for $3.99 from Salvation Army - the same Salvation Army the Vagisil & vintage Strawberry Shortcake stationery (that I sold on eBay for $49.99!) came from!. Lids are very chipped, but better chipped than lidless.

I really love this pitcher! I couldn't find much information about the company - AVIR, but I learned that they are from Italy (hoping that is correct), this pitcher is totally awesome & I'm so surprised it came with it's original stir stick! I'm not sure if you can make it out or not, but right down the middle there is a plastic container (the pitcher itself is glass) that is meant for ice, so it doesn't water your drink down & it keeps your drink cooler for longer. Because of the pattern, I'm dating this at the early 1980s? Although I could be wrong - $3.99 at Value Village. Can't wait to use this for Sangria at Pride! Wish I could have photographed it better.

Love all this retro wrapping paper. Okay.. okay, I don't know if the Lifesaver wrapping paper is retro, but still totally cool. Treasure Troll, uhh.. Beauty & the Beast (just came in the package) & wrapping paper with disc mans, roller blades..

Things

Quick post before bed tonight!

My boyfriend & I went up to the West 49 outlet we had heard about from a girl at my work near Warden & Eglinton & to my surprise right at the bus stop there was a Salvation Army. Now Salvation Army is my favourite thrift, but it has yielded a treasure or two in the past, but more often than not, I am leaving empty handing.

To my surprise they had this Federal bowl.. $3.99. I do already have this bowl, it's packed away in a box somewhere & I am glad to have another. A few chips around the rim, but the graphics are still so colourful it will look beautiful on display. Last weeks trip to Mississauga brought this very cute retro Lord Nelson Pottery elephant string holder in yellow - $1.51.

At the outlet my boyfriend was lucky to score a killer pair of DC boots for the wintertime. Last year they had them at Boathouse & the hipster working there had told my boyfriend, "YA, DC doesn't make these in size 13." Low & behold, a year later.. for $49.99 marked down from $159.99, we got the boots! A couple shirts too..

Random Junk!

Random Junk!

Not much happening on my thrifting end this week - kind of a bummer, but I did find some random junk today.

The Simpsons - 1990 - Randim Marketing Inc. Happy Birthday paper plates - Sealed (49cents)
Beetlejuice - 1990 - The Geffen Film Company cards - Sealed, 2 packs ($1.00)
Norfin Treasure Troll giftwrap - 1992 - Artfaire - Sealed (25 cents)
Superman wrapping paper - Sealed (25 cents)
Super Mario Brothers 3 Nintendo toys - Sealed ($2)
Dakine covert leash - Sealed (99cents) - for the boyfriend

Also, a beautiful 401 yellow Pyrex bowl from Goodwill for $1.51. Decent.

That's all folks! Maybe next week will be better.

I do have a question. For the Nintendo toys - should I leave them in the packaging? Vintage McDonalds toys are worth as much as they are ever going to be worth & you can get them for rock bottom prices. I would love to have them on display, but I am wrestling with the idea of opening them... what do you think? Open them for display or keep them in a box...?

Thrift Score!

Thrift Score!

Check out my latest finds!

After lots of drooling over Van @ Thrift Core's winking owl cookie jar, I found one of my own! I paid $7.99 at Value Village last night out in Victoria Park. Totally loving it!

Check out these retro blender salt & pepper shakers! Perfect colour! Picked up at a Salvation Army in Mississauga. The box came into a unfortunate accident while traveling up to my apartment. I'll spare the details, but a little tape fixed it up so it is barely noticeable. $3.99. NIP! New in bloody package! 1950's.

What do you think of this vintage reindeer glass? It's fantastic! The gold, the pink go so well together. I'm also loving it with the turquoise box & the pink blender salt & pepper shakers.

The turquoise box. 69cents for it & I dealt with the bitchest Value Village worker you've ever seen.

This other glass. I'm on the fence about it. What made me leave the store with it was a woman with a motorcycle helmet had said, "now that is a very cool glass" after seeing me pick it up. Now I'm not so sure.
ED NOT: Don't you love my 77cent paper towel?

With my new love for turquoise & my everlasting love for Federal bowls, $1.99 was an OK price - especially for a mint condition bowl.

I will leave you with a picture of some dice. My newest collection.

Thrifty Things Friday!

Taking part in THRIFTY THINGS FRIDAY over at THE THRIFTY GROOVE.

Today was a small thrifting trip, but it yielded 2 OK finds. A nice CATS by NINA LYMAN plate. $2.02. Also a set of red & yellow egg shaped salt & pepper shakers that were made in Japan.

Also picked up $18 in reto sheets & pillow cases. Going to save those for tomorrow... going to bed now! Up at 5:45AM for work tomorrow.

Next week on Friday I will be having a HUGE thrifting adventure with my boyfriend & my bestest friend in the whole word. We're going on a road trip to Windsor & making quite a few stops along the way. 10? 15? 22? 30? Time will tell.. We're going to have to pack lightly.

Mushrooms, Turtles, New Kids, Clowns & An Ashtray

Another Monday. I'm going to feel horrible this week. I am already exhausted. Thrifting in the next couple weeks will be at a minimum, I am moving July 1st & Toronto Pride 2011 begins shortly & ends the same weekend with some excellent, crazy celebrations. 10 days & I still have to pack up 90% of our house, not good.

Anyways, here are so great finds!

Some funky mushroom drinking glasses from Salvation Army, 99cents a piece. One glass is a little more "dishwashed" than the other, but it still has kept it's funk factor.

Some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie bumper stickers. 10 to be exact. They are from 1990, Mirage Studios, done by Button Up, Troy, MI - same as some buttons I've bought before. I paid $3 for the lot, bought off line. eBay.

A 99cents ashtray, a nice addition to my hand collection. Value Village.

& I caved. I didn't buy them all, but I did buy at least some of the New Kids On The Block comics. You can also see a selection of my DVDs if you look closely. Value Village.

Clown mirror. Surprisingly, boyfriend approved! Value Village. One of the clowns looks eerily like John Wayne Gacy.
