Thriftosaurus & Large Haul!

Starting Thriftosaurus early this week because I'm so excited to show off my finds this week.

A sidebar ad on my Facebook told me my favourite shop in Kesington Market -
Funky Junky - was closing up shop, everything in the store was 50% off & at the end of the month, everything left is going to be auctioned off. The next day, I made my boyfriend meet me after work. We stopped for churos, went to the shop & got our usual Kensignton indulgence - Big Fat Burrito.
Immediately after buying these, I had thrifters regret. The lettering is faded, they need to be cleaned & I feel like I might have bought them just because I felt I needed to buy them as one last hurrah. One canister has a different lid. They were $20. I'm still on the fence about them.

This shot glass set couldn't be any more perfect. My friend & I call ourselves Betty & Veronica... $1.99 with a regular price tag of $20. She's blonde, so she's Betty. I'm happy to be Veronica.

This little vintage exercise book is just darling & at 69cents from Value Village, I couldn't say no.

The only Pyrex of the week, a Butterfly Gold lid for $1.99 & a 402 Tan Stripe Pyrex bowl... pretty marked up with utensil marks, took it as a challenge. We'll see how it turns out.

CB'er Anchor Hocking mug for less than a buck & a unopened package of the Masked Rider napkins, along with that Butterfly Gold lid.

I was absolutely giddy when I spotted these in the store in a bag for $2.99... sad that they were shoved in a bag with a bunch of junk, which took a couple flea bites out of the toothpick holder, but the salt & pepper shakers made it out in mint condition. Are they Norcrest? And 5 Kimberly Fire King mugs.

A collection of things,
a Star Wars Darth Vader glass from 1980 for 69cents.
a Crown jar, with original glass lid for $1.99.
a decanter (listed as crystal on eBay) for $2.49.
(all from Value Village).
I had seen a Crown jar my last visit home in Windsor, had wanted to buy it, but it didn't have a lid. Happy to have this one!

Last finds of the week - New Kids on the Block 1990 Magic Summer tour cup from McDonalds with lid for 99cents (the one on the left). I bought the one on the right previously for a dime.
And last item, a badge/pin/whateveryouwannacallit, that may one strike nostalgia with Canadians... Bi-Way! For those not in the know, Bi-Way was a chain of stores, now defunct, that carried discount basic apparel and general merch.

Hope to see your thrifted finds!

Fabulous Finds!

I'm quite happy with my recent finds in this post!

You'll see I found some vintage photos, the photos date from the 50's, 60's & 70's. When time permits, I shall scan them for closer enjoyment. One Christmas shot has got a gnome in it. The Hole 'Live Through This' cassette has been on my wishlist for about 3-4 years. I check out the cassette section specifically for it every time I thrift. I knew persistence would pay off, I just didn't think it would take this long. I never mentioned it, but I had bought the CD from Goodwill a few months ago for a buck. I already own about 5 copies, but I hate to see it in a thrift for a buck. Best album ever made. 51cents for the cassette. $3.03 for the photos.

Some closer shots of the photos.

The Anything Book. I had missed this during my trips to Goodwill, as it has been there since February 23rd, paid 99cents. It's blank inside, beautiful pink, soft corduroy. Absolutely beautiful. I love it. I picked up this ceramic shoe yesterday in Vaughan Mills. I'm adding it to my ceramic shoe collection... now have 2! It's a souvenir from Chateau Frontenac, Quebec, Canada. Quite an exciting little piece. Came in a bag with a bunch of other unmentionables for $2.99.

Now onto some buttons. Got the lot for $1.99. New Kids on the Block Christmas button, Alf "No Problem!" button from 1987, & a sexy Hulk Hogan pin from 1985. I had forgotten completely about that sexy piece of meat. Also pictured is a Tag Team "Whoomp! There It Is!" cassette single - 99cents.

All items from Value Village, except for the Hole cassette & Anything Book.

Ever growning collections..

Greetings, well, here I am with some more items to ad to my collections. I picked up a copy of the made for TV movie 'Death Of A Cheerleader' (1994), which stars the ever-so beautiful Tori Spelling, on DVD for $2. I am watching it as I type this, it's almost over. I also picked up another hand vase, similar to the one I picked up from Value Village in early September. I felt this was a bargain, since it was only 99cents, although I would have bought it either way. I also picked up quite a nifty, retro Federal bowl from Goodwill too. It's quite stained, as you can see in the pictures, but some magic eraser, soap & water will be doing the trick to bring it back to perfection. The bowl was $3.99. In the first picture you'll get to see a picture of the owl, which I posted about below as well. He was bought today, along with everything else.

Yet another item to add to my ever growing collections - a found photo of a little boy in a room full of funky furniture. You probably can't make it out on the photo I have taken, but the couch is covered in plastic. Found October 4th, 2010 at Value Village.

Total trip: $8.10.

After a sorta dry spell in interesting goods, I have found quite a bit of things I fancy - maybe I'm just easier to please recently. I passed up a couple items, one being this 'I Love You' doll. They were charging $9.99 (can you believe that?). I never bought it. I had to think long & hard about it & since I already have one, decided against it & left it in a shopping cart. Here is a shot of all the items I picked up.
I couldn't pass up the Marvin The Martian sweater. I don't know if it will ever fit me, since I'm quite fat. 60lbs will have to be lost. You'd think I'd lose some weight walking around shopping for junk! The U2 shirt is quite unique. I am guessing it's not an original shirt, but a bootleg from the late '80s or early '90s. It hasn't been worn much, if at all, but the images are peeling. I listed it on eBay if you want to check it out. The shirt cost $4.99. I almost forgot, Marvin only set me back $2.99. Not bad. The sweater is from 1997, Warner Brothers.

I'm not one to buy much glassware in the thrifts besides the occasional collectible plate & quite a few drinking glasses. I did however come across this cute little blue jar. It seems it's been made in Belgium - says the etching on the bottom. You also get a little closeup of the Valentines Day pillow. I think (maybe wishfully?) that this pillow is from the '60's or '70s. The tag is quite aged & that's the vibe I get from it. Whether it is or not (& I am convinced it is) I like it. The pillow set me back $1.99 & the jar back the same, $1.99. If the wife wasn't so disgusted by second hand items (he's one of those people who thinks they have the 6th sense & can see dead people around the items), I'd give him this I Love You pillow for next years Valentines Day along side a beautiful vintage greeting card.

Alright, now we got a book (99cents!). It's nothing special, but I found it a little interesting. The title is: 2gether 4ever Notes of a JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL HEARTTHROB. The book chronicles junior high notes passed between friends & a girlfriend. You can read a little more about it on Amazon if you choose. That's the book in the first photo that looks like an ordinary notebook. I love how on Amazon you can buy it new & used for a penny. I managed to take the Sally Annes worker down from $2.99.

Below you will find my new Cher vinyls to add to my growing collection (I have what, 18 now?). They were a buck each at Goodwill. Later that day I found the Cher album at Value Village with one of their damn stickers on it, for $5.99. Good ol' Goodwill.

That's all I really have for you today besides these sticky notes that cost me 50cents. "She kind of enjoyed working for an idiot."

Nevermind.

I almost forgot! I did see an item I would have purchased, it was 'Nevermind' by Nirvana cassette. I asked the woman how much & she's like, $2, so I tell her, "Nevermind". I don't think she got it though. She's not going to sell that cassette. I would have paid 50cents, a $1 at most. $2 is just a rip off. Someone had just walked off with something of hers, I had heard her talking & she's all like, "people are so rude!" My sister bought a couple books for my niece & she never even said, "thanks!" - Some people are so rude!

Nirvana needs no introduction, so here's my favourite Nirvana song. Enjoy!

Spin, Spin Sugar.

Recently came across 2 Sneaker Pimps albums, my favourite & probably many of yours - Becoming X & another one I don't care about. Anyways, Becoming X is already in my collection, which I picked up from a thrift shop many years ago - Goodwill. So, spin spin sugar & give these a lesson. Idiots for kicking Kelli out of the band, but whatever.
