Thriftasaurus #115

Thriftasaurus #115

Greetings everyone! We're almost there, 10 days! I only set up one very large shelf this year, my BF didn't approve. If I had set up everything, wonder if he would have packed up & left, lol? Next year, when things are a little more organized around here, hopefully by next year I've gotten a better paying job & & we've moved into a new, larger unit (2 bedroom? a full room just for me??).

Great treasures picked for me this week & last, lots to share! I'll start with all my vintage Christmas! It isn't a lot, but it's good enough for me.

Knee huggers. I just, I am a man obsessed. These are from an antique market. I left one behind - priced too high for what it was. All these are new to my collection.

All the following are thrift store finds. These guys with hats are made in Japan, as if you couldn't tell! There was one red one there, alone in a bag for $4.99 with a bunch of other garbage, but it was damaged. Too bad, eh? These were all $3.99 with a bunch of other garbage, plus I used my 30% off card.

Also some little made in Japan houses. Cute, right?

I also bought some deer. There is a few other Christmas items, but I forgot to photograph! Next week??

That's all for vintage Christmas! Now on to some others...

I am in the market for some beautiful planters for Spring. I need to find a great plant stand for the balcony, too. I have one other planter that was made in Germany, but that's it so far. I'd love to have more like this. I guess this one is made in Italy.

I want this plant stand. With the money I have been making on reselling, I might resort to eBay too buy it. I recently made thrift store purchases of 3 items that similar category items sell from anywhere from $15 to $500. I have no way to gauge how much mine will sell for as they are not listed. The anticipation is killer because I won't be listing until after the holidays! I may paint the stand with Plasti-Dip so I am able to paint & if I ever decide to sell, I can remove & still maintain the original condition. & you know, wait for a good deal, not paying $100 for it.

I couldn't resist buying these ET puffy stickers... something I have been creeping on eBay every once in awhile & finally showed it's face inside the thrift!

I bought another single orange starburst glass - I now I have set of 6. Love it! These are my favourite glasses I own.

& lastly, this owl was a buck, I have 2 others in different colours & I love them, too. A small ear chip, but something you wouldn't notice on display!

& I got a polka dot Hazel Atlas bowl! This is the 2nd I found this year, 3rd in my collection.  I need that damn turquoise one to complete my set!!

Still so much more to show! But I won't keep you, I know everyone is busy & there is lots to check out below, too!

Thriftasaurus #106

Thriftasaurus #106

Good afternoon thrifters! Hope you had a great, fun filled treasure hunting week.

I had some fun finds this week, a few I have even previously looked up on eBay, so not bad at all!

I picked up a few pieces of clothing this week, a vintage Screen Stars Paula Abdul t-shirt & a Fred Perry Laurel Wreath Jacket. I don't make it a habit to check out the sweaters & jackets, but it was raining & I actually thought, "maybe I'll find a Fred Perry jacket." Well, lo & behold. I wish that worked with Pyrex! *I will find a Shamrock Salad Set & a full set of Pink Butterprint & it won't be chipped or dishwasher damaged & it will have lids & brackets* - that ain't too much to ask for, right? These are 2 things I've eBay'd in the past. & black is my colour.

I've wanted one of these pixies for a long time! I've seen a handful in antique markets, but I don't got $20 for one vintage pixie. This was a thrift store find... yellow isn't really my colour, but this beggar won't be a chooser.

A large lot of vintage/retro greeting cards. (Not all posted, just a sample).

I already have a set of 4 of these glasses, but can always use an extra. I really think these are my favourite that I own. They had another one but it had a rim chip.

I bought this bag of magnets for the vintage Pac Man & Space Invaders one, but they  had a few other cute ones.

& ummm... also picked these up in a grab bag, cute enough.

Well that's it for me! Hope you had a fun week, too.

Spring has finally hit Toronto! I hit up a church sale this past Friday, it's the only one I go to regularly & I guess it's known as a pretty decent one in the city, as I was speaking to someone in line. Afterwards, I hit up a bunch of thrift stores & I did pretty good.

So, I got up for this church sale at 8AM. I got there for 9AM.. no one in line. I was like WTF? So I went to a thrift store. I got back there, no one in line. I was like WTF? Especially since it opened in 20 mins. Then a guy lined up at the door, a lady came out & told him it was around the corner... I confirmed as he walked by me. We talked as the 100ish people infront of us waited to get in. He pointed out some dealers who were there. I noted them. We just spoke about random things & I let it slip that I collect mugs - I try not to let it slip in places about what I collect or buy as people who are there to buy to resell who may not know it's collectible may start to buy it up. Anyways, doors open, first place he goes to, the mugs. He had known all about Fire King mugs when I let it slip. Whatevs. That wasn't my first stop. I got to the housewares table as a woman was handing a 8x8 orange Pyrex pan to the girl behind the desk.. I reached over to see what the 404 primary Yellow looked like (scuffed & damaged), the 403 Spring Blossom (ughish).. that was it! Within 30 seconds, one of those dealers had it in his hands. All I could think was.. "if he can peddle that shit at the antique market every Sunday, 50% of the stuff I leave at the shops I could sell.." I was surprised!

I bought the Butterfly Gold napkin rings at the church sale for 50cents with the intention of including them in a giveaway on my blog in the near future. The Yankees MLB pin from 1988 was 50cents & this DC lanyard was also 50 cents. & I knew my pop culture collection was missing something, so this Popeye had to come home with me. The owl is a handpainted coin bank, made in Japan. Back in the back is a 25cent church sale sugar bowl (?) & also a 474 Pyrex lid!

I picked up a pack of cards (which only included the Annie & Holly Hobbie) at the church sale for $1. The self proclaimed "pay master" was a little old lady sitting on a chair, she told me how she packaged them up for the sale to donate since she no longer writes letters. I told her they're great cards, thanked her for donating them & that they're going to a great home. She invited me back to the Autumn sale & told me she'll have more cards.

Drink anyone? I've eyed these poodle glasses at an antique market, but yea, I'd never pay antique market prices for them. A couple weeks ago I found a Batman glass, paid $2.99 (shhhh!) & I bought 8 in total this week (only 3 patterns), $4.99 for 4. I've already got 2 of each Cheap Wine carafe, but you never know when 2 will break & you'll never find another..

A 503 Butterprint fridgie found at the thrift 2 weeks ago & this vibrant, shiny red found this week.

Strawberry Shortcake! This towel was never used - still has the manufacturer hanger on in.

Some very petite deer & a very retro kitchen set!

Well, that's it! Hope you all found some killer stuff this week. I'll be jealous if you found some amazing Pyrex!

Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus

I went shopping with my boyfriend on Friday, my only day off work in weeks that wasn't a holiday.. the out of town thrifts & all the one antique market we ventured in were all quite busy! There were 2 that I could barely move in. I know that just after Christmas isn't the best time for thrifting, but the BF told me he'd take me out before our friends go to town - what a fun weekend!

Just a couple purcashes from the one antique market we ventured into, I went in determined to find a unique, rarer piece of Pyrex & left with this 1961 Holiday Promotional Casserole, with the lid. Probably my least favourite piece of holiday Pyrex, but I am picturing the jealousy on my future mother in laws face when I bring this over next Christmas with homemade stuffing. I also picked up this 1972 Pillsbury Dough Girl doll, she was in a bag with a 1971 Pillsbury Dough Boy, but he's suffered some major damaged overtime & his plastic has changed color to black in the weaker areas of his body. One more purchase, but saving it so I can take part in Rednesday!

Two items I had picked up at Knightsbridges Antique Mall in Michigan on Boxing Day. 470 Butterprint Bake Serve Store which has been surprisingly hard to find for me. It has been on my want list & I paid $8, no lid, but had one at home. I also picked up this set of S&P shakers. Reminds me a bit of Clockwork Orange, IDK.

I found 2 gigantic bags of pins on the showcase at one Value Village we went into. Each bag was $3.99, these are the only ones I'm adding to my personal collection. There is a bagful that went back to the thrifts (boring, advertising, homemade) & a couple that will be going for sale - one 1980's Joan Jett button will pay for both bags altogether!

  ...even some more vintage cards..
including 1980's Care Bears cards.

Another vintage Nintendo find this week - a whiteboard for 99cents, still sealed.

Can't wait to see how you have started off the new year - link up below with your thrift finds!

Thriftasaurus: Happy New Year!

Thriftasaurus!

Probably like lots of you, I didn't do much thrifting this week. I went home for Christmas, worked extra shifts at work & spent lots of time with family. I got my sister to drive me quickly to the Windsor thrifts with my little home girl sidekick (my niece), but they were plenty picked, or just not full because of the holidays. My sister did give me a $10 gift card for Value Village.

In Windsor, I picked up a New Kids on the Block sleeping bag ($4.99) & this vintage Pyrex Shenandoah 404 mixing bowl, not really my style, but the price was right & so was the condition, so maybe a trade or a resale or for the booth.

On Boxing Day, my dad drove me to Knightsbridges Antique Mall in Northville, MI.. place has a gigantic abandoned psychiatric ward next to it, picked up a few nice items, one I had to leave behind in Windsor because I couldn't carry it home. Pyrex 1958 promotional Golden Hearts casserole with lid & cradle & box. My second boxed Pyrex. My first with cradle. I don't have a pic of it, so.. gotta borrow! $15 (is that a good price..?). When I pick it up in May, I may trade it off. My other finds are still packed away, so I`ll post next week!

pic from here.

Happy New Year everybody!

Would love to see what you`ve thrifted or gotten for Christmas, link up below!

Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus

As predicted, I did minimal thrifting this week, the shelves were still pretty baron, but as always, there were some diamonds in the rough.

Basically, it was a 1980's explosion.

Some vintage Pac-Man fabric... it has a bizarre stain on it, I have no idea what it could be. I was so excited to find it, too. I'll have to see if it can wash out. Is there yards & yards of it, though. The stain happened from the fabric being folded & it leaves a film on your hands after touching it... You can see it in the photo, right about the word Pac-Man. Kinda depressing.

This stand up Care Bears cake pan set is AWESOME. A friend is coming up for his birthday in the new year & I'll be baking this cake for his birthday. All In The Family board game, 1972.. not the '80s, but whatever.

Pyrex. A Butterfly Gold 503. Would love to trade, if anybody is interested, but please note, there is a chip on the inside of the lid.

I'm just going to say this is from the 1980's... always wanted one of these tiny shopping hand baskets.

Some very retro 1980's Christmas stockings - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! I've been on a wild search for 2 years actually for 2 nice vintage white stockings, but surprisingly, they've been impossible to find! These will be just perfect!

Soooo....
I listed my vintage Strawberry Shortcake stationery on eBay & guess what? All had winning bids from the same bidder with 0 feedback. Ended yesterday, today eBay cancelled them all as they are no longer a registered user. I don't get why the hell they bid... they even waited until the end of the auction to snipe the items
