I can't be trusted. Last week I basically had the "I WON'T STEP FOOT IN A THRIFT STORE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR" attitude, but yea, like I said, I can't be trusted. I have a reason to thrift aside from adding to my number of collections - I need a new pair of black work pants. I've been wearing them to work even though the fly is broken. I don't know why, but it's extremely hard to find a good pair of black pants at a reasonable price in my size. Anyways, I have been looking for about a month. Finally, I found a pair at Goodwill - $4 pair of never worn Dickies - regular $8. It was 50% off entire store, you know, I only have luck at Goodwill on 50% off days, odd, isn't it? Last find at Goodwill (aside from my orphan Lefton Bluebird shaker) was 2 Friendship bowls on a 50% off kitchenware day near mint for $4 total. I can go 15 times before I end up on another 50% off day & wind up with nothing each time, but the "you never know..." keeps me coming back.
I also found this Napco Santa at Goodwill, $1.50. Turned him up, down, left, right, over & under.. couldn't for the life of me figure out why he was still there past Christmas. Maybe it's the small amount of crazing? or the melted candy? Anyways, this is up there on the list of top finds last year!
I found a piece of Pyrex. Butterprint 403. I have many of these. I am going to gift this. Possibly. Maybe. Hey, it could happen.
& a few more things: Ren & Stimpy wrapping paper (50cents, Goodwill), vintage cards (my bread & butter) & a sealed pack of vintage Hallmark kitschy Christmas coasters.
& this set of pink dishes? IDK who made them, Hazel Atlas? They were in rough condition, maybe another victim of empty hand syndrome. They were stained (with something black), grease stains, food stains, grime.. the whole nine yards, 99cents each. They cleaned up very nice with a few pin hole marks & a scratch or 2.

How did you ring in the new year this year? Hope you were able to get some thrifting in in the past week - can't wait to see what you picked up if you did!

I totally love the pink dishes. You scored!
ReplyDeleteThat was a very good Santa figure. Glad you got some good scores this week. I just had to share the wonderful plaque even though Christmas is over. Great find/clean up on the pink dishes. Sure look like Hazel Atlas. Happy New Year. Have also, a great week.

love those pink dishes!
ReplyDeleteThe plates look like maybe Hazel Atlas Moderntone. They're worth a lot if that's what they are. Love that Santa!
ReplyDeleteGotta hate heading to work with the barn door open!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found the mint-condition Dickies.Sometimes the best thrift store finds aren't vintage at all.
You are on a major Hazel Atlas kick! First the aqua set and now the pink Platonite plates? So jealous!!
ReplyDeleteI am taking a break from the thrifts. Went in to about 10 this last week and didn't buy a single thing. I don't blame the thrifts as much as I blame the onslaught of collectors/dealers in my area. Oh well, flea market is this morning so hopefully I can find something there.

I love the Santa, I have one that looks a lot like that one but is bank.
ReplyDeleteYou know you can't stay out of the thrift stores - they are addicting, I tell ya! I gave up, I admit I am powerless when it comes to passing a thrift store - I MUST go in....LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your little Santa, he has a cute expression on his face. And the Pyrex and pink dishes are divine. You got great stuff!
I love Napco, was lucky to find a little mouse holding a tree last year before Christmas. Great finds!
ReplyDeletehappy thrifting in 2014 to you too!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should say I'm not thrifting anymore too. Then I'll find the good stuff like you!
ReplyDeleteSweet finds! The dishes are Hazel Atlas moderntone. I have some Moderntone and some Ovide, and I paid a lot more than that, lol. Love them, from the 40's to 50's, so expect some scratches, but they are some tough plates. I use mine. Hope to get a post up so I can link up tomorrow. .
ReplyDeleteI love the pink dishes and the Pyrex. Don't worry all of us have the same addiction - can't stay out of the thrifts! LOL! I love the Santa.
ReplyDeleteYou've been finding some great stuff, good thing you stopped in!
ReplyDeleteThe dishes sure are pretty, of course, I love the Santa!
Nice Pyrex bowl and the pink dishes made me think of my grandmother she loved the color pink her house and cabin were painted pink those dishes would have been a great addition to her kitchen table.

Nice find on those Hazel Atlas plates!
ReplyDeleteThose Hallmark snowmen were *everywhere* in the '70s. I might still have a candle somewhere.
ReplyDeleteFunny how different regions yield different things. I can find pyrex and dishes for days but never any pop culture wrapping paper and groovy cards like you guys collect. Great batch of goods as always.
ReplyDeleteI think all thrifters say they'll quit at some point. Easier said than done:)
ReplyDeleteLots of great finds, but the Pink dishes are amazing!!! Thanks for sharing at TTF!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year. Thanks for hosting.
