Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus

A little late this week, but last night I was partying it up at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival! Had a lot of fun...

Everything I bought on my way down to Windsor from Toronto is packed away, ready to be opened when I get home (probably proudly displayed next Thriftasaurus), so I am just going to do a small WHAT I DIDN'T BUY AT THE THRIFT STORE edition, but hopefully am able to see some great finds from everybody else!

I totally would have bought this from the adorable packing if it were cheaper. This particular Value Village prices have skyrocketed on anything "vintage" or collectable. They had a mini (cereal bowl?) that was Fire King, cheaper at an overpriced antique market by more than $1.50.

What most of Pyrex shelves looked like in most of the thrift stores I stopped at..

I am glad to see someone succeeded in their ambitions.

If you remember my eBay post regarding my Strawberry Shortcake stationery (you can read about it on my blog)... can you believe once again I was bid in the last seconds by probably the same ditz with zero feedback? Even the person with 700+ feedback who bid, did not pay. What is the deal with Strawberry Shortcake stationery? I managed to sell one with a second chance offer, but my other second chance offer was ignored. 4 more non-paying bidder alerts filed... It's exhausting.

  1. Sorry to hear about the crappy Ebay people. My boyfriend sells on there too and the same stuff is constantly happening to him too. What is with these people? Why would you even bother bidding on something you have no intention of actually buying?

  2. Thanks for another peek at ebay stuff that irritates. Thanks for hosting, love joining in. You are right about VV - in BC I rarely even try to find something there. Thrift stores are more reasonable (not great, just more reasonable). So happy GS season is back.

    1. VV is my fav store, tho! The others are horrid here. It all goes out the back & Goodwill literally puts garbage on the shelf.

  3. I've been selling on and off for years, I could count on one hand the number of bad sales I've had, that's discouraging for you!

  4. The Boob Job jar is too funny. I would have bought that for my sister. She would love to have that for a joke! :)

  5. Hahaha! The boob job jar cracks me up! And even if it isn't choice Pyrex, that shelf is way more full than any of ours ever are.
The thrift I go to all the time near my house hasn't produced a single piece of Pyrex in months. Terrible!

  6. Love the boob job jar! I would have bought that for a gag gift for my mother.

  7. Ugh. Most of the Pyrex I see is the clear stuff--who wants that? And if it's not clear Pyrex, it's that ugly Glasbake stuff with the green flowers. Man, they must have sold a TON of that stuff.

  8. If I walked into Value Village and saw all of that Pyrex, it would freak me out. I have only ever seen one piece of Pyrex at our Value Village & I bought it!

I really hate finding one cute thing in those damn grab bags but having the bag cost so much. They know it too. It's why they package one good thing in a bag full of crap.

& why they put one vintage card on the front & one on the back.. with a bunch of crap cards in the middle.

  9. It looks like you have more of a selection at your Value Village then we do at ours on the West Coast. I find ours quite expensive.

  10. Our Value Village is gigantic and there is another one about 30 miles from here - and both have raised their prices an unbelievable amount. Some craft items I can buy cheaper at Michaels. I've told the clerks when I find over priced items - they don't seem interested.

You can buy brand new matching glasses at Big Lots for a lot less, almost half, than at Value Village. Goodwill is the same way - higher prices - and both sell donated goods - go figure.

    1. People complain on Facebook & I have noticed some changes... honestly. & some stores have even started pricing items inside as requested by people on Facebook (such as myself) instead of the bottom or side (on the paint).

They have also recommended that you speak to a manager if you feel something has been priced in error. Both times it has worked for me. I am waiting for the time that it doesn't...

    2. I guess I'm a little spoiled.. there are 10 Value Village stores within 30 miles from my home. (according to Value Village website, there is 16, though).
