What I Missed Out On (At The Thrift Store)

I went thrifting today & something told me to hit up these certain thrifts first, but I didn't listen to myself. I paid the price. I didn't find anything at any of the other thrifts & missed out on these glasses.

Now, I did buy one.. the green one..
"Green is liked by talkers
& those who eat a lot
They relish the scandals of others
but for themselves, thanks not."

That's how I know I missed out on them. The cashier told me a woman JUST bought 5 of them & pointed at the door. "She must have missed this one", she said. I have to say, I am extremely pissy. I missed out on these glasses. EXTREMELY. All I'm picturing now is some other Toronto blogger or flickr'er posting images of the glasses they bought. At least they missed this one, heh. If you're reading this, buyer & you want to trade/sell, let me know.
(reasonable price)
Lesson learned. I'll go with my gut.

9 stores on Thursday... 1 thing.. for 99cents.
5 stores today... 1 thing.. for 99cents.

It's quite a hit to my thrifting ego.

even my secret Pyrex place wasn't fruitful.
BUT. I did have a score of Pyrex earlier this week.

  1. When that happens to me I tell myself that the person who got the item that I wanted was really sick/down on their luck/never finds anything good at all. And then I can feel happy that it was their turn to find something really great!
(In the back of my mind I'm thinking that it was probably a fricken dealer LOL) But I at least TRY to fool myself! ;)

    1. LOL. Yeah, I'm expecting them to pop up on ETSY orrr on the posting place of a thrifter in the area I am jealous of. I've tried to talk myself down from the pissy mood.

I guess finding the missing glasses is just another good reason to keep on thrifting, eh?

  2. Ahh that was a mean thing for the cashier to mention! Haha. Stings a bit when that happens! At least you made it out with one, right?! :)

  3. You get a gut feeling to go to a certain thrift shop? So do I! I have never had your experience of watching the person walk out the door with items I want, but I have seen items I wanted in other peoples carts. Thrift envy, I hate it!

  4. 14 stores in two days - you rock! That's dedication. Sucks about the lady who took your glasses. It kills me to see someone in the checkout line with MY stuff in their cart.

  5. Once at Goodwill, I walked by a woman who had two pieces of pink Pyrex in her cart. They were pieces that I didn't have. I followed her around the store (discreetly) hoping she would change her mind. She didn't. It ruined my whole day and made me sick to my stomach!

Love the old school 90210. That photo must have been taken before Kelly stole Dylan from Brenda:-)

    Have a great weekend,

  6. Well that has never happened to me before but I know of a women whom I met at a thrift store last October, she sells vintage Pyrex!!! She was hawking the carts as they flowed out from the back!!! She was a really nice women but it was competition and I HATE competition! She was off from work because she broke her leg, but luckily (if this doesn't sound mean) she went back to work and I have my Fridays in the thrifts to myself for Pyrex!! =) But I would be upset too, hopefully you will find some soon!

    1. Not mean at all. Dealers who sit at the door & then jump on the carts as soon as they come out the back door are gross!

  8. That stings for sure! I once followed an old lady around the store hoping she would change her mind on a set of glasses. I was pissed off the rest of the day. I try to not let those things get to me anymore. But those glasses are cool and I would have been pissed too!
