Thrift Scores!

Thrift Scores!

Here are a few more scores from my recent trip to London, Ontario. I posted earlier this week a picture of my Moon Deco Pyrex & I believe Heckel & Jeckel salt & pepper shakers - both unbelievably cool finds. Here are the remainder of the finds that London had to offer!

London Pyrex

Colonial Mist isn`t a favourite pattern of mine, hell, I can barely stand to look at it. I do like Bake Serve & Stores & I do like making money. This particular piece of Pyrex will be added to the inventory that will eventually be my booth or store. I`m lucky enough to barely see Colonial Mist in my area, is it frequent in yours? Anyways, I`ve wrapped this in extra paper & tucked it deeply away in the inventory closet. At the same shop, they had Butterfly Gold casserole, 2.5 quart, for $4.99 in mint condition.. I was going to buy it for the inventory, but my friend showed interest, so I let her have it.. she tried to coax me into buying it for about 5 minutes though.

Just so happy to have this 474 lid, though it deserved a picture. :)

My third old-style Delphite (Made in Canada - whoop!) Pyrex fridgie. This was from the antique market, $8. There is a flea bite or 2, but that`s OK. I haven`t seen one of these in a long time.

The Others.

I think one of my favourite finds recently has to be this set of salt & pepper shakers. Too the regular thrifter, outside of Essex Country & the Metro Detroit area & possibly surrounding areas, they might just be cute set of salt & pepper shakers, but to the majority of us who lived or are still living in those areas, they are perfect childhood nostalgia. Boblo Island was an island amusement park that you had to take a ferry to. It opened in 1898 & closed September 30th, 1993. Wikipedia doesn`t provide much information on it, but I had a blast there during my childhood. The most notable rides that are mentioned on Wiki were some of my favourite - The Nightmare (an indoor rollercoaster in the dark), Falling Star. I can still remember when my father took me on the Pirate Ship & the bar never locked properly, I thought I was gonna die! The Boblo Island Detroit Dock Building still stands today on The Detroit River in Detroit. (image are of Wiki)

1980s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pencils? Yes please. A cute, vintage postcard Happy Birthday puzzle, never used, still in the packaging? Certainly.
Has anyone sold one of these puzzles? I think I`m going to list this bugger on eBay...

Another neat set of set of salt & pepper shakers.
What do you suppose they are? I am fairly certain that they are flying saucers, my fiance says that they are serving platters & the woman who was selling them said they were clowns (???).. what do you think?

  1. HaHa! I can't bring myself to buy colonial mist! I just broke down and bought a 401 Old Orchard because the pics on Pinterest DO look a little better with a little brownish mixed in. But I still can't believe that I own that ugly bowl!
I think the S&P's are flying saucers! Or boobs in a white shirt with buttons. JK! ;)
Love all of your finds! ERICA

  2. Colonial Mist isn't so bad!! Hah!! My husband likes that pattern best of all!! I found the entire set of cinderellas one day at VV, of course I HAD to buy it, which I surely did not need, cinderellas take up way too much room. And, I already had the regular set that belonged to my Mom, I hope I'm not tempted by any more!!

The shakers look like flying saucers to me but who knows.....

    1. Good. Now I know there is a market for resale.

      Just kidding!

I totally agree though, cinderellas to take up so much room.

  3. Those shakers look like UFOs to me. Could be serving platters, too. Clowns though... I'm not seeing it, ha ha.

    1. Awwe, see Homestead isn't that bad! I guess it's because I grew up with it though. I don't own any of it though.

Glad I'm not alone in hating Colonial Mist.

  7. I think the woman selling them was half right. I believe they are the hats of the Pierrot. Which are french mimes.

  9. Ooh!  I have a similar Pirate Ship memory from Boblo.  The very last time we went, we went with the skipping team, and we sat in the very last row at one of the ends of the pirate ship.  I was with this one kid my sister Rachel’s age and his little brother, and one of the older girls.  Well, when that thing got going, poor Jordan (the little kid) kept like lifting from the seat & almost flying out.  The older girl and myself were using all our strength to hold him down — it was terrifying!
Boblo was the best.  The Corkscrew there was the 1ˢᵗ upside-down roller-coaster I ever went on.  Nightmare was great cause it was absolutely pitch-black in there!  Myself & another girl once went on the Tilt-a-whirl 15 times in a row and would’ve kept going if she didn’t have to go to the bathroom.  I learned to count to 100 one day on the way home from Amherstburg after a trip to Boblo when I was real real little and I still remember that.  I also still have one of those Boblo sailor hats and can sing the theme song from those tv commercials in the park’s later years.  I’ve always said: “If I ever become Prime Minister… one of the 1ˢᵗ things I will do is demolish all the rich-people homes on Boblo Island and reassemble the amusment park”.  :)
