Vintage Photograph.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
The Christmas Season is my favourite season of the year. I love the holidays. I usually love the thrift shops in the holidays too! Lot's of vintage Santas, wrapping paper, stickers, bags, ribbon - everything to have that vintage Christmas you've been dreaming off. This year, however, just hasn't been too great. How have you found it? I found a couple of older Santas, but they just didn't fly. The only Christmas merch I picked up from the thrift store this year was these window stickings below, 99cents (& had been in the store since March!) & a Dam Troll from 1989 - made in Denmark. The troll was $2.99. You'll see a picture of him, just not today! He had dropped trou in the bag...

These pictures of the window stickings are the best, but they'll do. It's hard to get a fabulous picture of the CN Tower from this angle.. don't ya think? And the packaging suggested it was "easy to remove", not so. I ripped the poor guy holding the candy cane 3 times.. no wonder he was holding onto that candy cane.. he was holding on for dear life!

This were made in the USA in 1978 by Spearhead Marketing in Minneapolis, MN.

Sir Thrift A Lot's Holiday Giveaway!

Sir Thrift A Lot's Holiday Giveaway!

Now the item has nothing to do with the holidays, but it is the holiday season, so a holiday titled giveaway sounded great. I reckon it would arrive in time to make a nice Christmas present too. Anyways...

You may or may not know, I love a deal. Not just in a thrift store, but anywhere. I hoard items when they are cheap. I came across some awesome picture frames at The World's Biggest Bookstore here in Toronto, at a cheap, cheap price. My boyfriend pointed them out. I don't let many photos be taken of me, so we only needed one frame. I made him go out today & pick another one up for a giveaway!

So here it is..

Giveaway starts right now, November 28th, 2010 & will end on December 8th, 2010 @ 11:59:59PM & the winner will be chosen via random.org. Open to the continental USA & Canada.

What you'll be winning if you win: an Umbra Crossword Dry Erase Photo Frame (as pictured). It comes with it's own dry erase marker that velcros to the back of the frame! COOL!

Mandatory entry:
01. Be or become a follower. Comment on this post. It can be interesting or uninteresting. An uninteresting post will not decrease your chance in winning.

Extra entries:

elephant shoe

Elephant shoe.. you know, when you mouth it it looks like "i love you". Well, this elephant doesn't have shoes, but I definitely love him, but not enough to clean the grim off of him. He's your standard knick knack, but with plastic ears & a tiny, grimy little plastic tale. Bought this back in July.. the very tail end of it.. $2.99 at Value Village. Made in Japan. $3.38 with that damn tax..

SEE NO EVIL!

Burlington Purchases!

Last Friday Aggie & I braced the fog (it was srsly like the movie The Mist) & made our way to some Oakville & Burlington shops. The two purchases below are from the Value Village in Burlington. Used to live in Burlington, had to been to that occasion occasionally & had never found anything worthwhile, so I wasn't expecting much. However, I found some exciting items!

There is this little sewing kit box thingie Made in USA, $2.99 & a beautiful made in Japan monkey bank, also $2.99! SEE NO EVIL! Wasn't my only purchases made that day, but others are to come!

$6.74.

Hambuger Salt & Pepper Shakers!

Salt & Pepper Shakers!
(made in China)

Alright, so I've been thrifting, but also been sick, exhausted, feeling under appreciated in certain areas of my life, general feeling not to hot. I did get some thrifting done during the last month, with some neat finds. I've got some for you on Saturday, but here are 2 sets of salt & pepper shakers that I got from Goodwill. I have no clue whether a set was a hamburger & a sandwich.. or a sandwich & a sandwich & a hamburger & a hamburger. They are made in China, so they could be from Dollarama for all I know, but I do think they are cute. They all have their original plugs, too. 99cents for a total of $3.96!

Something that made me feel pretty good was when I was getting in line with the wife, a girlfriend says to her boyfriend, "AW! ARGH! I knew we should have grabbed those!" I told her there was another set, but they were in terrible condition.. she never got them. Days later when I was in the store with Aggie, I'm looking at the messy aisle & she heads over from her favourite spot, the CDS, passing the s&p shakers.. picking them up & telling me that she found something that I would like. Already got 'em, I said. Two pairs.

Here are the pics!

Sir Thrift A Lot in the movies!

Doesn't seeing an item you have in the movies just give you...

THE WILLIES!?

Me neither, but I was watching this movie the other day called THE WILLIES & atop the window sill near the sink laid a beautiful I Love You This Much statue that yours truly purchased from Value Village many months ago. Funny thing, I've seen this movie over 10 times.. first saw it when it was my choice of video rental as a child from Jumbo Video in Windsor. Afterward the movie became a joke between me & my step sister for years. I looked for the movie in shops & all over for quite a while afterward & oddly enough, after I moved to Burlington, Ontario from Windsor, I went into this shop called Liquidation World with my mother & the VHS was there used for $5! Nice.

Can you spot the similarity?

Here is the trailer if you'd like to check it out since I reckon many of you have never heard of the film before. The good trailer had embedding disabled on Youtube (stupid users who do that), so you'll have to do with an odd version of it..

T-Shirt Tuesday!

T-Shirt Tuesday!

This is unfortunately not a thrift store buy, but an eBay buy.. was somewhat expensive, $39.99 USD + $3 shipping, but after some Google research, laughter & some thinking, I decided to use Buy It Now! If you share my sense of humour, you'll find the shirt funny, if you don't, it's OK, I still do. I'm not going to include the cost of this shirt in my total.. since it was an eBay buy! What do you think? This was a splurge & this is my eBay post of shame (we've all been there...).

"Come back to Detroit this year, we missed you last time!"
