Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus

Welcome to Thriftasaurus! A big welcome to all the few new people who joined up last week.

I have a couple of these mugs already. I don't know when they were made, but there is a set of canisters that I had previously bought a few years ago that I also saw at a thrift recently that sat for awhile that had a newer style "MADE IN TAIWAN", so I guess they are quite recent? I now have a set of 6 mugs, a creamer & a sugar bowl.

The Great Canadian Tame Hole! Have you ever seen one of these? This is my second one. I found my first years ago, from the 1970's. I had been planning a post previously about The Great Canadian Tame Hole, but never got around to it. I won't go into great detail today, but it's basically as useless as a pet rock - just aesthetically pleasing.

I also got these vintage Made in Japan Christmas decorations. I was on the fence about them because they were $6 (with some others, that were damaged & tossed). I thought they were empty hand syndrome. Now, I absolutely adore the little drummer boys & I won't be able to celebrate Christmas without them! They are perfect & just look at their staches.

Anybody know anything about these? They were in the box as well. There was remnants of one of the tags & the stuff that could be read I took to Google, all I could find was the following stuff on a Japanese auction site. Not the same, just similar: info here. I don't read Japanese, but through Google translate.. I got somewhat what it says. They were in the box with the vintage Christmas decorations. Not sure if they are from the same era or ended up in there some other way.

Here is a sticker from the one in the auction above
I don't know what it is with the thrifts here, it seems some people in this city have some damn good luck. Thrift stores that used to be a Pyrex goldmine for me, are a Pyrex graveyard. Sometimes the vintage items that are in quality condition can be counted on one hand. Is it this late Spring? The influx of dealers in the city? Every collector seems to be a dealer. Lots of back door deals? All stores are still quite stocked, but lacking vintage, collectable items. I do get lucky when an item is damaged & can be cleaned up. I also get lucky when I am out of the city, but locally.. not anymore. I don't have any fleas around here, I have yet to attend any estate sales (they don't seem like they'd have much of what I'd enjoy from photographs online...). I don't know, I hope things change. I'm starting to think I should give up!

Hi Thrifters! I didn't get out this week. This hasn't happened to me in forever. This hasn't been a good week, I tells ya. Hope you have some great stuff to show off this week - I need to see it!

Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus

I do have some nice finds this week, but let's start from the beginning...

I didn't get out to many thrifts this week - at all. I went to one after work one day. I have had people in my life who have been making me feel like complete & utter shit lately, so I haven't been enthusiastic enough to bring myself anywhere but home after work. The one I went to, I was basically dragging my face on the floor after walking through the housewares section & not finding a damn thing. My thing was, "if you find something here, go check out the next one." Yeah, well I am sure the dealers had a hell of a day because there was nothing worth a dime there. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude, but it's really not me. It's easy to say ignore the assholes, but it can be quite hard.

Lucky, I have someone who cares about me & knows how to cheer me up. We dropped off the dog at mums, stopped at the Value Village near her house, jumped on the highway towards Niagara Falls, stopping at the Value Village in St. Kits...

The one buy mums is quite out of the way & not that great, but finds it's way into my regular rotation at least once a month. My only finds there, really are: a shirt I sold for $90, vintage risque swizzles, a Butterprint fridgie with lid & now this!

Totally psyched! It's been sitting on the table & every time I walk by it, I look at it & smile. I've wanted this for a long time & have been having such horrid luck in the thrifts lately. Another one bites the dust from the list! It wasn't in perfect condition, but any halfwit could clean it up! $3.

I got these Christmas pieces. The choir boys, I ah, kinda regret. Ah well, they'll make their way into Christmas this year.

This pin. I always love pins. It's been so long since I've brought one home. "Don't monkey with me", 1950s style.

Just in time for St. Patrick's day (which I won't be celebrating). I passed up a set of vintage shamrock placemats near Christmas, regretted it. Love this vintage shamrock tablecloth more & it'll go great when I eventually get my Shamrock Salad Pyrex Set. I also have a cute set of vintage Shamrock tumblers with gold on them.

Lastly, this Fire King splash proof at the antique market for $10. I think it's the more turquoise, robin egg colour. I don't know where my other one is to compare.

Anyways, hope you had a great shopping week!

Vintage Napkins: Which Hoohah Character Are You?

Nipkins
THE NAPKIN TO USE WHEN YOU'RE HAVING A NIP

I got this fun set of vintage paper napkins by Hoohah months ago in Buffalo, made in 1963 in the U.S.A. by Monogram of California. Which nipkin character best describes you?

The one that is most like me is...

"Neighbor who came over to complain about the noise", except, it hasn't ended in an orgy... yet.

Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus.

Hi thrifters!

Aside from this kneehugger, which was an eBay purchase that I had shipped to my dads house & picked up when I was in Michigan, I don't have anything to share. My thrift store finds were miniscule - some vintage wrapping paper & about 4 vintage greeting cards. Pretty disappointing week. Anyways, this particular kneehugger is my favourite kneehugger aside from the Kamar devil kneehugger. Don't you love the look on this guys face?

I hope everybody fared better than I did this week! Can't wait to see what you've all picked up on your second hand journeys. Link up below with the inLinkz linkup with your latest blog post of second hand finds.

Wanted Wednesday: Pyrex Strawberry Mixing Bowls

Wanted Wednesday:
 Pyrex Strawberry Mixing Bowls

I was searching ended listings on eBay (because I have nothing better to do, even though the laundry is piled up, dusting needs to be done, bathroom needs to be cleaned...) & came across this listing for a set of 2. The listing was ended early, so I can only assume someone offered a price & the seller accepted. Wonder what it was?  Obviously, I could be wrong. Naturally, I took to Google & found the image above. Tried to find the source to link to it, but I wasn't successful, so... Google Search by Image Results it is!

Have you seen this set before? Own it? Would you buy it? I think it's cute, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy it, especially because it'd probably go for an arm & a leg online. If I found it at a thrift or at an antique market, I'd bring it home.

According to the listing, this set is unmarked.

THRIFTASAURUS

This was another week I didn't rock it too much. I had a thrifting trip planned out this week, but it didn't pan out the way I planned (does anything, really?). I found a few things at the first thrift, which did it for me. I'm in love with the ice bucket & the table runner. I don't know the area very well we were in, the BF does & I was trying to get a grasp on where he was going & he skipped over one of the thrifts on my list. I was a bit ticked off.

My first buy all week were these vintage Daisy Lady glasses/tumblers. I bought them because I found them hilarious. I would have loved to meet the woman who had this set of glasses. I haven't been able to find anything like them online, if you know something, let me know. I am also looking to sell this set. If you are interested, let me know. I can't take a fab pic, but stay tuned.. give me a few weeks. I had planned on keeping them, but want to raise some money to buy the table I have my eye on.

Another ones of these, very adorbs! I can't not bring one of these home.
If you are interested in purchasing this, let me know.

Cute ass tea towel, no? I dogs. If I ever won the lotto (I do play - sometimes), I would open some kind of dog sanctuary..
I wanted this tea towel, but I think I may be selling it to pay for the table I want.

Anyways, I have 2 Christmas table runners in the same/similar colours & fabric. Now I have an Easter. FAB! Even the BF had nice things to say about it & that don't happen very often!

I bought these little NOEL choir boys that were in a grab bag. I had thought that one of these guys were the missing choir boy Erica from Pyrex Thrifter Sisters had broken... but, upon further investigation when I got internet access, it wasn't. This NOEL set isn't even that rare - I will still complete it though! Ambitious! & a Santa mug.

JUST LOOK AT THIS ICE BUCKET!
It is an ice bucket, right? Not sure if someone changed their mind or the shelf putter outter thought it was a planter since I found it with the planters... when I'm in a rush, I usually don't check that aisle, but I am in the market for planters for Spring, but nope! Too hard to find something when your looking for it. You all know what I mean.

Would you care to roar through the twenties again?
I went to my first estate sale.

Alone.

I was on my way to the doctors office, which is 2 city blocks away & off my road was an estate sale sign. I went over. Always wondered what those houses looked like inside (pretty dumb). Not sure if the place was insanely, completely picked over by 9:30AM, but there was nothing there really. Some old postcards, I picked these 2 out for a quarter. I think the person was downsizing, I imagine old & can't climb the stairs anymore as each room was on a different floor & all the furniture was out of the house.

* note, I am from Windsor, ON.. which is why I bought the postcard.

If you are in Toronto & would like to accompany me to future estate sales, let me know! I need a friend like you.

Anyways, hope you all had a satisfying thrifting week! Can't wait to see what you all have found. Have a great week. Join up below with your latest post with your second hand finds.
