THRIFTASAURUS

Hello! I've been lazy as hell this week & I kinda got this feeling it's going to flow into next week too. No thrift finds for me this week! Can you believe I went to 5 thrift stores & found not one thing to bring home? It was expecting it to happen eventually, luckily it happened when I had such a great trip to Ohio!

Here are some of my Pyrex buys! I have a few more to show off next week, some of the stuff is still packed up. A nice Black Tulip 043 casserole from 1957, I guess these decorater promotionals were for Christmas according to Pyrex Love. Also another brown refrigerator dish has joined the family & also a discounted #401 Americana mixing bowl - perfect for fall! My favourite piece of Pyrex out of this lot is the Barcode. I've wanted a piece for awhile. A long while. I just need a bunch more now... I'm sure you all know how it goes, right? The retro tin is made in 1962 for Mrs. Lelands Old-Fashioned Candies.

This little angel kneehugger is just adorable, isn't she? Look at her little wings! She's about 2 inches.

I couldn't go home without this poodle from the antique market & for only $5! Rae over @ Say It Ain't So is always posting pics of the cutest plush poodles & I finally have a similar one of my own. This guy was made by Herman Pecker & Co. in Japan.

I got 3 sets of salt & pepper shakers while I was there, one is still packed away & was on my want list. These two were a surprise! I love light bulb salt & pepper shakers, I collect salt & pepper shakers, but I collect light bulb salt & pepper shakers. This set has a sticker from '73 & has a saying on the bottom "WATT FUN!" - haha, get it? The other set, I liked because Humpty Dumpty looked a little sinister. I like that.

You know, maybe not finding anything this week was the thrift gods telling me to take it easy... unpack your crap, get it together! You got enough stuff!

I know Halloween just ended, but hey, the thrift stores were dousing out their Christmas goods on November 1st - when are you all decorating for Christmas?
Linking up with Thrifty Things Friday & Junkin' Joe & A Living Space.

If you found anything second hand shopping this week, I'd love to see what it is & for you to share below!

Thanks for reading & thrift on...

  3. You always thrift great stuff. I painted a thrifted chair - but my best find was the needlework framed picture behind the chair - $5.00 at a school garage sale. I think that will be my best buy of the year while out thrifting. Thanks for Thriftasaurus.

  6. I have never seen an angel kneehugger! Didn't even know that they existed. The Black Tulip I just picked up for Hanna a few weeks ago. She loves the black & white pieces. I normally begin decorating Thanksgiving weekend. I have such a mass amount of Christmas that it takes a while. I think this year I am going to work on decorating throughout the week and then getting my tree the following weekend. The tree alone takes hours. What the heck is the point of buying all this vintage Christmas if I don't display it?

  7. Such a great tin ... and the Americana bowls are starting to grow on me, although I've yet to see one in person.

We don't decorate for Christmas until December, but sometimes I pick up little things in advance.

I hear you, Erica, about trying to use all your wonderful vintage Christmas decorations -- I've been collecting them since my teens and have masses of things, some of which only come out of the garage every three or four years. Am thinking of doing a big sort during the holiday and then selling off bunches next summer.

  8. Yay for you! Love the Black Tulip!
I've never seen that pattern, so after reading your post, I looked it up in my copy of PYREX Passion and found a 1957 ad that includes the piece. The ad states: New PYREX Cradled Decorator Casserole, with beautiful black tulip pattern on white background, has smart, brass-plated cradle. Cover makes an extra serving dish, or may be used as a tile to protect the table finish.
So how about that? The handy-dandy top does triple duty!
Oh, and it sold for $3.95.

    1. Oh gosh. My home is a mess. I display nice pieces on top of my cupboards, in display cases & stuff. A lot is boxed up & take some out on special occasion use. I live in a small apartment. If I lived in a home I'd have more space, so it wouldn't have to be boxed up, but I'll buy now while I can!

  13. Those salt and pepper shakers are fantastic! I've never seen light bulb ones before. And the little angel knee hugger is adorable.
I love how sometimes our blog friends inspire our purchases. You make me look for paper stuff, Rae inspires cute critters, Jill inspires Vera. I'm sure we could name more but I'm lazy!
It looks like Ohio treated you well! Good for you.

  14. More than anything, I love that candy tin! I keep hoping I'll come across one on my travels.
And I totally understand what it's like to go to five thrift stores and find nothing!

  15. As always, beautiful finds! I just decorated for fall a few days before Halloween, so I think I'm going to enjoy that until the day after Thanksgiving. I did, however, manage to get most of my Christmas store items listed :)

  18. The Pyrex is great I still don't have them in my collection. The 1962 candy tin and the angel kneehugger would make it into my basket if I found them.
