Thriftasaurus

Thriftasaurus!

How's the weather where everybody is? The snowfall has stopped here, yesterday was our biggest snowstorm here in Toronto in 5 years with 30cm of snow. I was going to attend an estate sale, but the weather sucked, it would take an hour & a half to get their via transit (plus anything I would buy, I'd have to bring home via transit...), my BF was going to stay up all night to bring me, but I just told him to go to bed. He was exhausted from the week & I didn't want him to be even more exhausted. So, I didn't go. This was some of the stuff they had:

Primary & Town & Country Pyrex - new in box.
Planters peanut guy S&P shakers
pale pink vintage canisters
I've only been to estate sales halfway through & they kinda sucked. How does everybody always seem to get what they go their for? I imagine there is crazy competition, especially after seeing about 50 people at one estate sale I had gone to hours after it already started. This seemed to be the nicest estate sale advertised in the city I have ever seen. Maybe next time.

Here are my finds from the week, though:

Leo the Owl, it's from Urban Outfitters for a fraction of the cost. Everyone is always saying, "they don't make vintage cards like they used to", can't wait until UO starts making carbon copies of the vintage ones we collect & selling them for $8.95. & another item I could see UO recreating, another vintage snack set.

A "Fashion Victim" brand shirt from 1995. I used to own a similar Fashion Victim shirt. I'm going to try to resell this, eventually. Never worn.

Two more of these cups to complete the set! I bought 2 for 99cents at Value Village. I paid $1.51 each before at GW. Yes, Value Village overprices everything.

Thanks for linking up to Thriftasaurus last week. Can't wait to see what you've found this week.

  1. Estate sales are very few and far between up here, I've been to two and neither one seemed to be like the ones that US bloggers get to all the time!!

    1. I know right?

This one seems to be the closest estate sale to the ones the USA bloggers post that I've ever seen them post pictures of online.

  2. I NEVER would have been able to sit home and not go to this sale, tired boyfriend or not. I go to a ton of estate sales and have never ever seen Pyrex in the box. Those pink canisters would have definitely come home with me no matter the price (well, maybe). The one thing that I have learned about estate sales is that if there is something you want, you get the EARLY. I once sat in my car for 4 hours to get something and I was stil #5 in line!

Love the little owl. Thanks so much for hosting again!

i bought most of the salt and pepper shakers, they were amazing, and only 2 bucks a set. i didn't see any planters ones though? and i was the first one to the table. i wouldn't have noticed though as it isn't something i look for.

i was the first one to the pyrex as well. the primary set was 45 bucks. a decent price, but i have 5 primary sets and didn't need one in the box that bad. the town and country was only a single bowl, and it was 10 bucks, so i passed on that too. I did take the little pyrex advertisements out of the bowl first though, because i'm classy like that :/
someone picked up the pyrex two seconds after i passed on it. funnily enough, it was a lady who was in line BEFORE me, she just didn't manage to find the pyrex before me lol.

    1. The canisters rock! They had the green set in the pictures, $2 is a great price. Maybe I'll attend the next sale. That is a good price for the in the box primary, since they can go for a couple hundred on eBay.

Didn't think you were a guy, BTW. I do only know one other person besides myself who likes Marky Mark & that's a girl at work who's also obsessed with NKOTB, enough so that she follows them on tour.

  7. oops, thought you meant planters peanuts lol. do you mean the little guys with the green gourd shaped heads and the red vests? because i bought those. why do you call them planters?

    1. I want to add the guys to my collection! My dad is taking me to a flea market in Michigan in the spring.. he told me the people who sell are basically hicks who don't know how to price their stuff. Looking forward to it. Going to try to make the first weekend, so everybody has their finds from the winter season.

Anyways, my point was I am hoping to get them there.

  8. I would have grabbed those pink canisters. Sounds like the Pyrex bowls were too pricey for me. New in the box is nice, but I'm cheap at heart. BTW, when I look at the ads for estate sales and see something that I just have to have, I will study what the room looks like in the ad and as soon as I get in the house I make a beeline for that room. No use looking in the kitchen if it looks like a garage in the photos.

    1. Is there some crazy mad dash when the doors open? My friend & I almost got run down at a church sale. We were basically carried in.

I'll study in the future. Study hard.

  10. There would be other sales, I would not have missed it only if there was something unique that I really wanted, if not... it is just things, things... right?

    1. I get obsessive & sad about things, items. Although, you are right & you're comment was most comforting. My BF's point about the NIB primary Pyrex set: it'll just sit in the closet in the box - too true.

  11. I love those glasses! That is a great pattern.

  12. Lovely vintage scores as always, I found one glass in that pattern before. Same here on the estate sales, I always end up getting there "late" and all the good stuff is picked over. It's definitely one of those things you have to make a habit out of frequenting, and getting to early at that. Some of my friends find THE most amazing vintage at estate sales for cheap but whenever I see it's at higher-than-eBay crazy prices.

    1. I remember when you found it. Whenever I find the pattern I think of it - lol. I'm going to try going to estate sales. I think I need a friend to get me going. A friend who doesn't collect the same stuff!

  13. I don't think I would have braved the weather for a sale either. Love those glasses you found. Thanks so much for hosting the link up.

  14. I love the idea of estate sales but I always get annoyed once I'm there! Way too many people fighting for the same things! Love the snack set, looks like one I found in the fall at an estate sale. The glasses are very cool as well!
